The guys come from a section in Brooklyn, NY referred to as Flatbush. Lords of Flatbush was also the name of a movie back in the day...guys, your really dating yourself here!
The band also has called themselves The Drab Four (a play on the Beatles - Fab Four), and white dopes on punk etc etc... they spend too much time busting on themselves.
*shrug* At least they have a sense of humor - As you may have noticed in their lyrics. Little Miss Scare-All (Clairol) *ha* that one has to be my favorite.
Little need it be said the band has a good sense of humor. I guess you have to when people are ready to jump down your throat and call you sexist or racist and misinterpret every lyric you write. In my exposure to them they've all been pleasant with me and really seem to appreciate their fans, even if their hearts aren't always into touring etc.
Peter also likes to mess with people's minds. I've heard the stories about him changing his last name to Steele because it means Stalin in some other language or some goofy thing like that. I think way too many folks take the band and their humor a little too seriously - they're messing with you... realize this :)
...About Peter Thomas 'Steele'
Supposedly in bands since the tender age of 12. In his later days he was the front man/bassist for Carnivore. But back in the
80's he was in several other bands. One, called Fallout released a couple singles. Another band, Repulsion, released an album entitled None More Negative (what we know today as Slow Deep and Hard).
Type O Negative was also called Subzero for a short period of time, until they realized another band was already using that name.
His birthday? January 4, 1962 Did you know that pete is the youngest of six? And all of his siblings are female - scary household!
He was named after his father who passed away. Dear sweet Petrus also is
a big cat lover *blech* He has a pretty close family from what I have picked up.

Johnny Kelly... Birthdate: March 9, 1968 (aww, hes the baby.) was trained as a diesel mechanic and is a fairly big fan of cars and MOPAR. He apparently owns a '69 GTO.
He is a really great guy, who despite being in a major rush was willing to stop and talk to me for 30 seconds.
We all know about his wife Anita, right? Sorry ladies... rumor has it they are QUITE happy and just had their first child on January 19, 2001. Sophia Paige Kelly was born at 4:48am and was 7lbs 15ozs.
We also all know Johnny Kelly was NOT an 'original' member of the band. He replaced Sal on drums who had moved on to Life of Agony, a fairly decent band - but he left them as well! Johnny joined up with type o negative after the release of Bloody Kisses. They have all been friends for a very long time, so it was not a difficult progression.
Josh Silver... Birthdate: November 14, 1962
He too is very much in love and was just married in the summer of '98 to a long time love from back home (he was married once before as well). Recently he too became a daddy to a little girl! Rebecca Aliyah Silver was born February 19th, 2001 at 10:56am and was 7lbs. 3ozs.
He definitely is a busy man as he owns Systems Two, a recording studio in Brooklyn.
Josh has jumped from band to band when he was younger, just like pete, or should I say WITH pete for quite some time. Rumor has it in EARLIER bands he even would take ball bats to his keyboards at the end of a show. GOOOOOO Josh! :)
I wonder what Josh thinks about all of the Christianity related lyrics Pete writes, being that Josh is Jewish I am sure this puts an odd perspective on things.

Kenny Hickey... Birthdate: May 22, 1966. Well, I certainly hope he has a woman, because he has a youngin named Megan! Kenny and Bonnie were married in June 1999.
Based upon some info given to me i discovered Kenny was previously a plumber - and I must agree with the source of this info, what better band to have in your house if something breaks... the car, the pipes?
In recent time Kenny has taken the steps to clean up his act and deserves our support. He's been giving us better shows since and has his wife and daughter as inspiration to keep it clean. Congrats Kenny - keep it up.
Sal... - ah yes, Sal. Sal left the band in the midst of releasing Bloody Kisses to join up with Life of Agony. Another, fairly cool band - but he has left them too. This point in time is when Johnny came into the picture. Sal went to school with some of the guys, and that is how the clan for friends all hooked up.
