On Tuesday, September 24, 2002 I had to put my Chewy to sleep. His health was in a steady decline and he was unable to stand up without a lot of pain and hard work on his part. He was to the point that he would cry due to the pain he was dealing with.
I know I did the best thing for him because he isn't in pain anymore and is in a much better place now. Even though I know this, it was the most difficult and painful thing I have ever done in my life.
Chewy was a treasure from the day I met him. Despite all he had been through before he came to live with me he was the sweetest, most loving and easy going dog I'd ever known. For every ounce he weighed there was a hundred pounds of love in his heart. I'll miss that so much.
These pictures will never be removed from this site. My favorite is the extreme Chewy close-up. It isn't the best picture of him that I have but it just captures his personality. He was always so curious and forever doing something cute.
He was very, very special and I feel he was a definite blessing. I wouldn't trade the four and a half years I had with him for anything in the world. Every second was precious. I'll always remember the wonderful things about him and cherish every memory.
He may not be with me, but he will always be with me. He'll remain in my heart forever.
He was most certainly a "Saint"...
I'm Chewy!! Glad to meet you!! This is a picture of me in my Santa hat. I wasn't too happy about the hat, but I know I look really cute in it! My mom thinks that I'm about six and a half years old or so. I don't know when my real birthday is. I am a rescue dog from Ohio. Mom found out about me through an email on the Saint Bernard-L mailing list. (Note from Mom: This list is accessible via the Saint Bernard Club of America Home Page. Their link is at the bottom of the page.)
The people who owned me before didn't take very good care of me. They didn't feed, water or play with me like they should have. When mom picked me up, I was very, very underweight and starving for food AND love and attention. That was on Memorial Day 1999. (Since we don't know my birthday, that is the day we celebrate my birthday. I can't wait for that day to come around every year!!)
I've gained a lot of weight and eat really good now. My veterinarian gave me a clean bill of health and I am once again playful like I should be.
The Saint Bernard Rescue organization is a wonderful program that has helped to save the lives of many loving, caring Saints. The wonderful ladies and gentlemen who donate their time and efforts to this cause are all heroes in my opinion. Thank you all for the great and selfless work you do!!
The second the car door is open, I am ready to go!
Taking a walk in the front yard with Mom.
Kids nowadays! I borrowed the car from Mom to take a spin around the block!
Typical of a Saint's curiousity, I just have to know what the camera is!
A good picture of me running to my adopted Mom.
