Bubba debuted in ECW in 1995, as a bodyguard for Bill Alfonso. Later on, his character was changed to Bubba Ray, who started out as a stuttering, dancing form of comic relief, then turned into one downright nasty son of a bitch. A member of the whole Dudley clan. His half-brothers included D-Von Dudley, Snot Dudley, Sign Guy Dudley, Dances with Dudley, Dudley Dudley, Big Dick Dudley, Chubby Dudley, and Spike Dudley, who were all featured at one time or another in ECW.

The Dudley clan was based on the Hanson Brothers from the movie Slapshot. The Hansons didn't care about anything or anyone; they just wanted to hurt people on the ice. The story of Bubba was that he was born after his father, Big Daddy Dudley, and watched Deliverance once too many times.

The Dudley Boyz were first introduced into WWE in September of 1999. Their first feud was with the Acolytes (A.P.A.) and their first WWE Pay-Per-View match was against them at Unforgiven '99.

Bubba Ray and his half-brother D-Von form arguably the greatest tag team in the history of sports entertainment. Together, the Dudley Boyz are not only the only tandem to have held the WWE, WCW, and ECW Tag Team Championships, but their 17 trips to the top of the tag team mountain is a mark that may never be matched.

The Dudley Boyz briefly disbanded in favor of an attempt in singles action, and the run proved to be successful for Bubba Ray as he held the Hardcore Title eight times during a two-month span in the Spring of 2002. However, the two reunited at Survivor Series 2002 and are seemingly inseparable now and as much a fan favorite as they ever were before. Bubba Ray is best known for his love of crashing an opponent through a table and the saying, “Blood is thicker than wood” can be attributed to Bubba Ray’s actions. His scream of, “D-Von…get the table” is one of the most popular phrases among WWE fans everywhere and has made his wood-splitting antics a legendary maneuver.
