Flush DefenseSubmitted 2-18-01By KoD_Stealth1If you want to defend against a flush, you must know if a flush is coming. Normal Feudal time is 12-15 min. Anything under that should indicate either a careless player who doesn't have a strong economy, or a flusher. You will be hit with a flush around 14 min into the game. To defend against this, you need to know information. A flush is short for Feudal Rush. Typically, you are invaded by archers which kill villagers and you respond by putting them in your TC. This is not a bad thing, your villagers will live, but you are no longer gathering resources, which is what the enemy wants. Next, he brings 5-7 of his own villagers to construct towers by your forests and mines. He may also put a wall of some sort around it. Palisade is the common choice since stone is used for towers. Now that we know what one is, we can take steps into preventing it. A wall will stop foreword builders from crossing over, but the sneaky can avoid this. If your wall is on a forest, it is easily evaded. The enemy just chops a tree, puts a wall on it, deletes the wall, and he slips rite by. No attack bell will sound. Only the sharp eye can see the enemy and a wall and what your up to. But if your lazy like me and don't like looking for spots for walls, you must move to the 2nd line of defense, an army. One thing to know is a flusher will very rarely use man at arms, since making mass amounts would compromise a go castle time. Archers are wood and gold, You need a mere 200 gold to castle, so 5-8 gold miners is plenty and a lumberjack production to produce a good amount of archers. If you could make counter units, he would have to put more into flushing you. If you hold him off till about 20 min, or even castle around 20, he will give up and withdraw. The units you need are simple. Archers and skirmishers. Archers snipe the villagers while skirms attack his archers. He will hit you with anywhere from 5-15 archers, depending on his skill, and how determined he is. 5 skirmishers is good, while 10 is ideal. But this will damper your castle time, the choice is yours. Archers are a must, too. You need not to pool to much into making them, because he will evacuate as soon as the safety of his villagers is reduced. But what if it is to late, and he has towers already, just outside your view. Your pretty much screwed. But there are a few ways out. The first is making men at arms and assaulting the tower. They will be safe because of the min range. But look out for towers in groups, where they can defend each other, and villagers inside. If there is a wall, forget it. You won't get it anytime soon. The second is castling FAST. If you can castle, get some rams, you will have it made. Watch for MAA trying to crush your rams when your not looking. I myself do not know the exact way of flushing, because I do not practice it. I have been flushed and these should work to your advantage. Another defense is score, If you score is significantly higher than his, 300 or better, your chances of being flushed are low, but a dramatically high score, 500 or greater, and your bad news. And if things look hopeless, they aren't. Run to your buddies town and start again. You will be amazed at what you can do. |
