The History of Knights of Destiny

Chapter 1
The Disk

It all started way back when I got one of those MSN Internet CD's in the mail. I didn't know much about computers 3 years ago, I didn't even know we had a working modem! But since the internet was still growing, and new still, my parents never caught on until later. I think this was September of '97 and AoL 3.0 was the newest thing. But I had little use of a internet CD so I was about to throw it when I discovered a sampler on it. It had lots of games, like Urban Assault, Close Combat 3, Age of Empires: Rise of Rome, and a pinball game I think. I started playing the RoR demo, and was hooked. It started in a little Stone Age town, needing to destroy the Roman axe men and archers. Then expanded into a fight with Rome and Sicily with fierce naval battles. I was Carthage by the way. I believe they did this because they get a nice range of units, from longswordman, the guys before legions I mean, to war elephants, and heavy cavalry. Then the last one was nice, having to destroy a fortress and the wonder inside. I remember waking up around 5 am just to play it before I went to school.

Chapter 2
End of the Year Gift

At the end of 6th grade, my parents were nice enough to get me a mountain bike. It was a nice bike, but now it is not really that great. The rear derailleur is really messed up, we can thank KoD_Breaker for that, and the handle bar is all twisted, the front wheel is about 5 inches closer to your foot, not to mention its flat. But the end of 7th grade brought about new beginnings. I had already loved to play the 3 part scenario in the trial version, and I had to have the game. So I went to Sam's and my parents bought AoE and RoR in the classic Sam's package, the two games wrapped together. But for 30 bucks, you can't beat it. It also came with the official strat guide, which was of little help but to get through the scenarios. We have had AoL for a few months, and were getting used to the slow speeds. I played the demo some on the Zone, and lost all my games. But I played and learned new tricks. Soon I was Bronzing around 13 min and Ironing before 20.

Chapter 3
A Clan is Born

One night over at my good friends house, who is now called KoD_Breaker, we were wanting to play some RoR online, yet, his computer didn't support the Zone. We went looking in AoL chats but that wasn't good. I was already in a TIE Fighter clan called New Imperial Order (NIO). I saw that they got members by going to chats and just doing mass IM's to everyone in the room. I thought, that if we started our own group, or clan, we could have a good amount to people to play with, so we decided to create an AoE/RoR clan. We needed a name. We did recently beat Metal Gear Solid, which may I say is the best Action/Adventure game ever seen, so I thought Next Generation Empires would be cool. Like Next Generation Special Forces. So what if I copied MGS. We decided to use a ranking system that used buildings and units and points. The site is still up, you can find it here. May I also say it was my first website I have ever done, I think I did  good job for pure HTML.

Chapter 4
Out with RoR, in with AoK

Around October time of '99, I anticipated the release of Age of Kings. I have heard a lot of it, such as ramming of naval ships and capturing them, and a map so large, a villager takes 8 minutes to cross it. Well these did turn out to be lies, or maybe they were just in the beta version and never pulled through. But I never did get AoK in October. It was sad really, Wal-Mart, Office Depot, and every other store didn't have a copy of AoK. So I started playing Jedi Knight, Mysteries of the Sith. It wasn't till I was walking through the software section as my usual self, anything is better than waltzing through the bra section with my mom! And I glanced a nice blue box, with 3 distinct pictures on it, and in big red lettering, AGE OF EMPIRES 2: THE AGE OF KINGS. My wait had been over. All my patience, the yelling at dorkie Office Depot clerks, had all come down to this. I also glanced at the big black price tag. $49.99!!! 50 bucks for the best RTS game ever. I, being the impulsive buying I am, bought it. I started playing and it was sweet. I even learned that they had trebuchets, which I decided to make for myself before I had this knowledge. I decided to bring the clan back around in April. I needed a name. Next Generation Empires 2000.

Chapter 5
NGE is Reborn

NGE2K was the name, and AoK playing was the game, well, AoK was the game. I decided not to have people change their name to have the tag in front, mostly because of its size, but also since most people are really stubborn and refuse to show off there membership to others. Around May I discovered a problem that Gateway had also found. By Gateway I mean the computer company formerly known as Gateway 2000. They knew that it won't be 2000 for much longer, and 2000 doesn't have as much of a futuristic impact as it once did. So I needed a new name. I held a meeting with our members, I had to have 2 since for the first one no one showed up. The first week I changed it to King's Guard Battlegroup (KGB). By the second week, Knights of Destiny had come up, and it was taken. KoD had been born.

Chapter 6
What is Our Destiny?

As you can see, this clan has come a long way. We have had our cheesy Angelfire site with old frames and now our own dot com with a password member's area. Only the few who know this appreciate this clan, such as myself, and my friend who decided to have a group of people to play with. I would call this other party KoD_Breaker, with the rank of King, or NGE_CoolBrez, with the rank of Town Center. Was it his need to play with other people that got the ball rolling, or my persuasion techniques and skill in web building that got us to where we are? Perhaps it was two boys who needed to pass some time. Who would have thought it would have grown like this? I hope you have enjoyed learning the history of this clan, and the ones before it. Perhaps another thought will come to mind when you hear the words KoD.
