Tampa Bay showed they are more than just a Defensive juggernaut as they pounded the Bears 41-0. I still think St. Louis is the slightly better team at this point, but if that Defense of theirs doesn't improve shortly, they will start to slowly sink.
TEAM | PVS | REC. | GIL'S GRIPES |
1. St. Louis | 1 | 2-0 | An Offense like the world has never seen, but a Defense that is allowing the margin of victory to be too close for comfort. |
2. Tampa Bay | 5 | 2-0 | An Offense that scored 41 points to go along with the leagues best Defense. If they can score half that many against the Lions this week I will be a believer. |
3.Buffalo | 6 | 2-0 | Rob Johnson is the number 2 rated QB behind Kurt Warner. This well balanced team is a force to be reckoned with this year. Travel to New York to face the Jets, and fortify their place among the AFC elite. |
4.Baltimore | 10 | 2-0 | Big comeback against the Jags stunned a lot of people. We get to watch them in the Sunday Night game of the week against Miami. They should be out to show the world that they are for real. |
5.Indianapolis | 2 | 1-1 | Laid down and died against the Raiders. Blowing a 21 point lead is almost unheard of. They get the week off to dwell on it. |
6. Denver | 8 | 1-1 | Averaging 39 points a game through the first two contests. Brien Griese is fast making a name for himself. Big showdown this week in Oakland. |
7.Tennessee | 3 | 1-1 | Squeaked out a victory over Kansas City in overtime. The Offense has been lethargic so far. McNair is hurt, and Neil O'Donnell might just be the tonic they need to get jump started again. |
8. Jacksonville | 4 | 1-1 | I'd love to shed a tear for the Jags blowing that big lead, but I don't think I will. The only thing better would be to see the Bengals beat them this week. |
9. Minnesota | 9 | 2-0 | Not a bad start for a team that lost Randall Cunningham, and Jeff George. Duante Culpepper is looking like a bonafide NFL Quarterback. |
10. N.Y. Giants | 14 | 2-0 | First in the East, and they don't look like they'll fall from their anytime soon. Kerry Collins is finally turning into the Quarterback everyone thought he could be. |
11. N.Y. Jets | 11 | 2-0 | Vinny stole a victory away from the Pats on Monday night. He had a little help from Wayne Chrebet, who I'm sure was hoping that Keyshawn Johnson was watching. |
12. Oakland | 13 | 2-0 | If they can play with the intensity they showed in the second half against the Colts all year, they will be a very tough team to beat. |
13. Washington | 7 | 1-1 | The best team money can buy fell to earth a little earlier than I expected. I would have loved to hear Daniel Snyders post game speech. |
14. Detroit | 15 | 2-0 | Have yet to score an Offensive TD, but still find themselves 2-0. Says a lot for the Defense, but they can't keep this up much longer. They might not score this week either. They get Tampa Bay. |
15. Philadelphia | 12 | 1-1 | All the people who jumped off the bandwagon might jump back on if they beat the Packers this week. I don't think losing to the Giants was that big a setback. They just got beaten by a better team. |
16.Miami | 16 | 1-1 | The Defense is playing great, but I don't know if the Offense will ever get it going. Playing against Baltimore this week won't help. |
17.Carolina | 17 | 1-1 | This is the team that could prove to be a big surprise at the end of the year. They lost Wide Receiver Patrick Jeffries for the year, but Donald Hayes is stepping up big time to replace him. |
18. New England | 21 | 0-2 | The best of the 0-2 teams. The line protected Bledsoe a little better this week, but not much. Blew game they probably should have won. Kevin Faulk gave them some hope of finally having a running game. |
19. Kansas City | 19 | 0-2 | Came close to upsetting the Titans, but fell short in OT. If they lose to the Chargers at home this week, they can start thinking of next year. |
20. Seattle | 22 | 0-2 | After getting shut out by the Dolphins in week 1, they storm back and score 34 against the Rams. I don't know if that's a testament to the Seahawks Offense, or the Rams Defense. |
21. Chicago | 18 | 0-2 | Humiliating defeat at the hands of the Bucs puts this team right back at square one. So much hope before the season began, now they have to start rethinking what direction to go. |
22. Arizona | 26 | 1-1 | Jake Plummer launched a great 4th quarter comeback against the Cowboys. He gets a week off to think about his renewed confidence. |
23. Green Bay | 23 | 0-2 | If Green Bay has any hope for this season, they must beat the Eagles this weekend. Brett Favre had a pretty good game against the Bills, but they were outmatched. Antonio Freeman seems to be returning to form. |
24.Atlanta | 24 | 1-1 | Got crushed by the Broncos last week. Get crushed by the Panthers this week. |
25. New Orleans | 28 | 1-1 | The Saints are at .500! Good job Jim Haslett. |
26. San Diego | 20 | 0-2 | When the Defense allows the Saints to mount a comeback against you, things are pretty bad. Going into Kansas City this week will be a very daunting task. |
27. Pittsburgh | 27 | 0-1 | They go to Cleveland this week. If you think things couldn't get any worse in Pittsburgh, just see what happens if they lose this game. |
28. Cleveland | 31 | 1-1 | Revenge game against Akili Smith worked out pretty good. They carry their new found confidence home to face the hated Steelers. |
29. Dallas | 29 | 0-2 | How far have the Cowboys fallen? We find out Monday Night when they travel to Washington to face a very disgruntled Redskin team. |
30. San Francisco | 25 | 0-2 | The 49ers face the Rams this week. This should be a joke. |
31. Cincinnati | 30 | 0-1 | Open up a brand new stadium and face the lowly Browns, then stink up the joint. |
