Road Deaths - the statistics they don't relish
Here's some statistics on road deaths to put you even more in the picture. Despite the increased congestion on our roads due to
government underfunding, road deaths are still only 66 per week compared to 76 in the home. Thats with something like
24 million vehicles registered in the U.K. In 1999 2.8 million people received hospital treatment for injuries in the home. That
compares with 320,120 for injuries in car accidents. Now that puts all this garbage put out by Derbyshire and Notts Councils
into perspective. In the fair city of Nottingham, where the additional specs cameras come into operation shortly on the A610 near the Gateway hotel, what have these notoriously expensive pieces of technology done for road deaths?

Lets look at the true figures. In the time that these cameras have been installed, Nottingham's politically correct councillors and police claim road deaths in the area where they are installed have been reduced. By how much,100, 50, 20, NO. In the area where these spies in the sky have been installed the total serious road accident figure, (not deaths mind) has fallen by, wait for it 11. Of these the majority were due to drink driving and pedestrians dashing out in front of traffic. Some were children playing chicken from nearby Broxtowe estate. In the country as a whole road deaths are down by 12!!! Remember that you do not have to pay any notice of speeding you receive unless:-
a) You were driving the vehicle.
b) The equipment has been calibrated correctly and can be shown to have been tested and verified.
c) In a court of law the evidence of speed camera on its own is insufficient to convict you.
d) If you pay up without contesting the intimidating letter you receive, you only have yourself to blame.

Government admits speed cameras alienate the public and are simply revenue raisers
In a tacit admission of defeat the transport minister, John Spellar, (yes another minister, you might well ask how many are there) has said that police forces will now paint speed cameras yellow to make them more visible. They will no longer be able to hide them behind road signs and trees etc. This is a triumph for vivys web. com who will continue to campaign against the location of some speed cameras until the government get a co-ordinated transport policy together and stop hounding innocent motorists who the Blair government simply see as tax reveue cows.
Speed Cameras "reduce road deaths"
Despite all the hype and spin from the Home Office speed cameras have failed to make an impact on road deaths. In 1999 the figure for deaths was 4323 people killed in 2000 it was, wait for it, 4311. So there we have it, all the waffle from the mouthpiece pressure groups pandering to the Blair government regime has reduced road deaths by 12. Statistically the figure is insignificant. Despite the ineffectiveness of speed cameras Nottinghamshire, another government 'poodle' council, intends to install more of the technically controversial 'specs' cameras. This despite the disasterous effect they are having on police public relations.

Speed Kills!!  This mantra trotted out by local councils is at best laughable and at worst irresponsible and a lie. It is used by
these councils to invent traffic restrictions and the UK's politically correct Chief Constables to justify the persecution of innocent
motorists and increase the revenue of the Police. (well it is easier than catching villains, lets face it). The facts are, speed has
never killed anyone. It was said in the 1800's that the human body could not stand speeds in excess of 30mph and rail travel
was impossible because of this! Astronauts re-enter the atmosphere in excess of 24,000mph and live.

What causes road accidents is driving inappropriately for the conditions and situation at the time. e.g. driving past an infant
school at the speed limit of 30mph would perhaps be inappropriate at going home time. At other times of the day 40 or 50mph
may be quite alright. At least on the continent they realise this with variable speed limits, (one of the few good things to emanate
from Europe).  While on the subject of speed why is it that in Germany, where there is no speed limit on the autobahns,
accidents are no greater than in Britain.
Over the next few weeks we will explain the muddled thinking and costs these people put us to, together with some ways of
beating the speed cameras and keeping your licence points free, yes it can be done and we will tell you how. Keep visiting.

They are at it again
A Mr Jamieson, another one of Mr Blair's 'ministers' (this one also has something to do with traffic and roads), reckons that in Lincolnshire the inability of the local council and police to get road deaths down isn't all due to the lack of dual carriageway and lack of motorway in the county. A lot of it has to do with speed, here we go again. Just to put the record straight Mr 'minister' Lincolnshire has a historically high rate of accidents because the roads are narrow and straight and sadly not everyone who drives is a good judge of the speed of oncoming traffic.

If your spinning government addressed the real issue like, building more dual carriageway and separating the streams of traffic you would get less deaths. Also it is conveniently forgotten that a lot of the deaths are local and associated with alcohol. Anything else you want to lecture us about before allocating more money for speed cameras to increase the police revenue and reduce the amount you have to give them from the exchequer!!!
Canada outlaws speed cameras
Now theres a turn up for the books. In Canada they have realised that speed cameras are so ineffective at speed enforcement they have been banned. After a trial they realised that the best means of enforcing speed limits was by use of the highway patrol who issued warnings for a first offence.
London Police decline to introduce further speed cameras
In London the 600 speed cameras will not be added to, unless they can be justified on safety grounds.
The police are realising that the added paperwork and the lost public co-operation on other policing matters is just not worth the trouble. (we don't like to gloat but didn't we tell you so). How long before the divots in Notts and Derbyshire wake up!!
Here's a good money waster for Christmas from Notts Police and their barmy political masters
If you are seen in one of the useless bus lanes, installed by Nottingham Council to slow up and clog the roads, then the politically correct police will send you a Christmas card reminding you not to use bus lanes. (unless you are Mr Blair of course and then no action will be taken). This is our money of course, a seven letter word beginning with W springs to mind.

Derbyshire Speed Cameras

As one of this country's "green" councils opposed to individual car use, they would prefer it if you used the awful public transport system. Their Police force claims to promote safe driving by continually having you look at your speedo instead of the road ahead. Their crime rates to say the least leave a lot to be desired but by persecuting motorists they do increase their revenue. Recent public opinion polls have shown conclusively that the public rate persecution of the motorist and the enforcement of speed limits as so far down the list of priorities as to be non existent. It is easier than catching criminals though, and as a consequence the beat bobby gets less co-operation. It is interesting to note that this force are now getting upset because our 'biking' friends heading for Matlock are avoiding speed traps by using alternative routes. What a shame.

Camera Locations
On the road between Heanor and Ilkeston, (A608) at the last count, there are 5 cameras heading towards Ilkeston from Heanor. Three are located close together after passing Heanor college, the first one being just after the turn to the cemetary. The 3rd one is almost at the entrance to Shipley garden centre. Watch out for the one after shipley garden centre located just after the entrance to the Mallard pub. As you approach the hospital on the right there are are 2 more cameras to the left, one just before the hospital entrance and one just after it hidden behind a hawthorn tree, these last two are located in a 40mph zone while the previous 3 are in a 30mph zone. Watch out for the one situated directly on the left turn to the American Adventure theme park, putting one here really shows you how evil these council officials and their political masters are. After this there are no more fixed cameras, but to keep you from concentrating on your driving there are notices refering to mobile speed cameras which Derbyshire is using to boost Police revenue.

In the other direction from Ilkeston to Heanor on the A608 are other Gatso cameras roughly corresponding to the locations in the direction from Heanor to Ilkeston.

Motorway Junction 28:- A really nasty set of cameras here on the B6019 to Pinxton and South Normanton, it's not even an accident blackspot, (we prefer blackspot to the politically correct 'hotspot' ). Three cameras close together on the B6019. Once you have cleared the three on your left you should be OK.

Nottinghamshire Speed Cameras

HEY HEY HEY are Notts County Council developing a brain at last?
Our moles tell us that some 'people' at County Hall have been having second thoughts about allocating £200,000 for more naff speed cameras on roads around Notts. Apparently one 'Councillor' quoted a web site to an 'official' (for want of a better word) that rubbished police claims over accident statistics. (te he he, wonder who he'd been reading). Anyway they apparently believe traffic lights do a better job at restricting traffic and stopping commerce and industry. They'll never learn will they.

Where the cameras are

ADVANCE NOTICE OF NEW SPEC SITE IN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE

At the end of the A610 approach into Nottingham, starting at the Gateway hotel roundabout at the end of the dual carriageway 4 more sets of these cameras are being installed as the additional ones further along this road have failed to raise sufficient revenue. They are painted dark blue so that you can,t see them especially at night. This is contrary to what the government has said about making these devices visible. Remember that.
There is now continuous Spec coverage between the Gateway Hotel and the Whitemoor roundabout, also beware of another mobile speed camera blackspot on the corner of Chadwick Ave along this route.

On the A610 there are some of the new digital SPECS type cameras, the fact that they are costing more to operate than they are worth has not prevented the installation of the masts for the new ones, (see above report). They are located just south of the Commodore ballroom with the second set just before you get to the old whitemoor roundabout which is now a huge set of traffic lights located on the A453/A52 ring road.

Another set are on the A453/A52 ring road just west of the traffic lights mentioned above and just as you head west after these lights. They are very close together. There are no more cameras heading west on this road if you are heading for the clifton bridge area.

The thing to remember about these SPECS cameras is that their purpose is to identify the driver to stop evasion of the fine for being politically incorrect and driving at 31mph while concentrating on the traffic instead of 30mph. These cameras, it is rumoured, can't identify square number plates and all sorts of technical problems apparently plauge them, or so it is rumoured.

Challenge any notice you receive. We would put on the website how you can challenge them and we are working on how to publish it.

The other SPEC camera sites will be published shortly.

A60 out of Nottingham heading towards Mansfield. No speed cameras despite warning notices, although mobile units have been spotted very occasionally.

Mobile Sites

A610 heading out of Nottingham, a favourite mobile trap site is just opposite the Gateway hotel before the petrol station. They hide behind a brick retaining wall.

A favourite mobile camera site is approaching Trent Bridge from the north, from the city, on the dual carriageway. They usually stand with the van, of course, on the pavement opposite mower world. As usual you are driving with the sun in your eyes, especially in the spring and autumn so take care. Remember its easier to book motorists than catch drug dealers or gun carriers.

Basford area, Nottingham road. Coming down from Sherwood Rise to the Traffic Lights. They locate themselves just down from the Skillet and Sixpence pub, usually late in the afternoon so that the sun is in your eyes as you approach them.

Are South Yorkshire, Doncaster Police the only ones in the country with a brain?

Working on the original idea that speed cameras are there to warn of danger, (not increase police revenue). The sensible Police in the South Yorkshire area publish the location of their speed cameras so you can slow down as you approach danger areas. In Doncaster they paint them bright orange so that you can see them and be warned of danger. Then again the Yorkshire people have always been down to earth.
If you get caught speeding in Doncaster you deserve to get nicked. Funny but the crime figures in Yorkshire are on the way down as well, perhaps they get more co-operation from the public and the Police spend more time going after criminals rather than chasing motorists.
