Shaving - When & How

Here's some fun ... a computerized
personal makeover!
It's FREE at www.ivillage.com!
Click on their logo below and become a member
(it's free, too).
Then, when you have your username and password,
click on Beauty> makeup studio> makeover-o-matic.
Read "How it works" and then click
"make me over now".  You can play with the faces
they have in their database, or you can upload
a face shot of yourself and try several lipstick
shades, eye shadow, blushes, hairstyles, glasses
and hats!  They all have a variety of colors you
can change, too.  I suggest you apply a foundation
before you take your photo, though, as that
is not an option provided in the program.

Here are a few of my own makeovers
from their online program:

The "Sally Jessie Raphel" look - different glasses
Left: "Bette Davis" look   Right: Sally Jessie Grey
Actually, I wore an evening gown, foundation and
lip color for my basic face shot, but the lip color was
unnecessary as I found out later.  I've had loads of fun
with this!  Even got my "hubby" in on it.  To tell you
the truth, it doesn't suit him at all! hehehe.

What about your fingers?  Would you like them to
look a bit longer and slimmer?  I learned a trick
from my younger "sister", Kimi (a GG).  Now, my fingers
are not what you would call "thick" or "fat", but
I would like them to appear more slender.  I keep my
nails long naturally - until they break, of course,
(don't you just hate when that happens?!)
but you can do this with Lee's Press-on Nails
or any false nails you like.
Instead of painting the color all the way to the sides,
leave about 1/8 to 1/4 cm unpainted on each side.
This will give the illusion that your fingers are more
slender than they actually are!  Well, what the hay;
Illusion is what makeup is all about, after all!
Just so you know where we're coming from,
the photos below are both my thumbs.
There is no doubt but that nail gloss
feminizes the hands.

Which thumb looks more slender to you?
It's actually difficult to tell that the polish
does not go completely to each side on the
left nail, thus giving the illusion of slenderness.
Pretty good trick, eh?

Shaving - When & How
For those of us who have not yet begun HRT
(Hormone Replacement therapy) we still have to deal
with the ordeal of shaving, but we DON'T have to
shave like a man!  Shaving foams and soaps will dry
your skin!  Gels are slightly better, but they are a ripoff!
You already have everything you need to get a close,
nick-free and comfortable shave.
I use two methods; when I shave my face at the basin,
I first wash with a mild soap like Ivory.  After washing,
I apply a natural toner, NO acetone or alcohol!  They
only dry and crack you skin.  NEVER use an aftershave!
After a good pat with a natural toner, I apply a liberal
coating of hand/face moisterizer on the beard.  My
plastic surgeon has recommended Vaseline Brand Intensive
Care Lotion with Aloe Vera.  I shave as usual.  The
cream not only softens the hair, but protects the skin,
and if you should nick yourself, the aloe vera will help
it heal quickly.  Using this method, I haven't nicked
myself shaving for nearly six years!  After your shave,
do NOT wash off the cream - what a waste!  smooth
it into your skin for long-lasting protection.
The second method is even better;  while you are in
the shower, after shampooing, apply the same hair
conditioner you normally use, to your beard.  Be liberal
in the application, but don't overdo it.  Shave as usual.
When you shave, first shave with the grain of the beard,
then against it.  Smooth your hand over your face to
find any sections you have missed and razor them.
Be careful not to press too hard with the razor or you
will get razor burn, not pleasant!  I use hair conditioner
to shave my chest legs and groin area, too!  I don't press
the razor too hard, so I can go over and over the same
places to be sure of an absolutely smooth shave!  Be sure
the shower water doesn't wash away the conditioner
while you are shaving or the benefits will be lost!
How often?  This is individual.  I shave my legs about
every three or four days.  I shave my chest daily.
If you have hand or arm hair you want removed,
use the same method, but be VERY careful!  The hair
is soft now, so you can use a light touch.  Try not to
go over the same area more than four or five times.
Use long strokes with a light hand, that's the key.
