HOW WE MET
Kyle
and I met June 11,1998. A colleague at work suggested that we meet. He was the
son of her significant other and they wanted me to come over for dinner. I had
no burning desire to meet him. I never asked what he looked like, what he did
for a living, etc. I was having a lot of fun with my friends. We were busy with
plans almost every weekend. We had just come back from Las Vegas a couple of
months before, went to DC, was going down the shore, scheduled a canoe trip,
etc. You name it. We were doing it. Between his schedule and mine, we were
booked the summer and dinner was being pushed back later and later. At this
time, my company was moving offices and he came in to bring a table back home
and I was asked to help him. (Major setup!!) I helped him take the table to his
truck (I pushed the elevator button) and on the way back up to my office, he
just looked over at me and let out this huge sigh of relief. I was taken back
and asked what that was for and he said, "You're good looking!!" His
dad and my colleague wouldn't tell him what I looked like. All they said was
that I had a good job, recently graduated college and had a great personality.
We
talked for a while and then he asked if I wanted to get a drink. We went to TGI
Friday's and talked for almost 5 hours. It was great. There was never any
awkwardness. We just hit it off perfectly. The only weird moment was when he
walked me to my car. He wasn't sure if he should kiss me. We were there for at
least fifteen minutes saying good bye and every phrase ended with the word
"OK" for some reason. He didn't kiss me though. He asked my to go out
over the weekend, but I said I already had plans and he said, "I'll get you
to see me one night" and sure enough he did. He called me three times on
Friday saying what a great time he had the night before and thanking me for the
evening. (Such a gentleman.) I told him I had plans and he said, "You have
my number. Give me a call if plans change." Right away I called Diana
and told her everything and she said, "Tell him you'll meet him tomorrow
night (Saturday) with your girlfriends at a club.
We
made plans for Friday and because I wasn't sure where we were going. He gave me
directions and told me to meet him at a rest stop and he would lead the way from
there. One thing you need to know is that we are always late. We were suppose to
met him at 8:00 P. M. In addition to running late, it was like a hurricane
out and a lot of the roads were flooded. We didn't get there until
9:00 P.M. We had just parked and were going inside, when my cell phone
rang. It was Kyle and he said, " Where are you?" I said,
"Turn around." He turned around and I was right behind him. It
was classic. Anyway, his friends and my friends went out and we had a
great time. Everyone got along and Kyle and I just continued to hit it
off. So again, the moment arose and the same old question, "Is he
going to kiss me?" But I didn't wait for an answer. I kissed
him.
People
ask me, "When did you know?" Honestly, I don't know the exact
moment that I knew we would get married. It just happened. It
evolved on its own from being a "what if…" to being a fact and the
question just became, "When?" But there was never a doubt.
I knew from the moment we met that this was the beginning of something
special…and it was, it still is and it always will be.
