This is truly a sad ending for the robust and heroic cavalier of a number of screen classics . |

I love this movie when I see Errol up there on the screen he really is John Barrymore I think he played this part perfectly. Jack L Warner say's "when we talked about casting the role of John Barrymore who literaly boozed himself into the grave, I thought immediately of Errol. Frankly; I missed his gaiety and taunting laughter and excitement he generated on the set. It was whilst making this movie he had to struggle through take after take, his face was very puffy and grey, the shimmer Had gone from his eyes. He was playing a drunk and he did not need any method systmn to get him in the mood. He was drunk "J L W" |

The making of this film was very difficult, the tempratures were 140 far by day and 90 far by night the cast was plagued by all kinds of tropical deseases, dysentry, malira ect. Errol drank vodka and juices he seemed to get away with no sickness untill they got back to Paris for the interior photography. He got his old enemy malira. The script called for Errol to die. No body realised that his death was only a year away.Yes |
