In the Aquabase, Joel enters a room to find Ms Fairweather, Captain Mitchell, Dana, Kelsey and Chad watching through a safety screen as Carter tries morphing with the Titanium Morpher. The titanium powers prove too much, though, and Carter painfully drops out of his morph. Later in the day, Ms Fairweather angrily drops the morpher onto Captain Mitchell's desk, telling him that the Titanium Powers are too powerful for ordinary humans, and that they won’t be testing it any more. Dana enters the Captains quarter's as Mitchell puts the titanium morpher into his wall-safe, carrying a birthday cake. Mitchell and Dana both talk about a car crash that took Dana's "big brother," whose name was Ryan, away from them many years ago, and today would have been that brother’s 20th birthday.
Late at night, when the Aquabase is asleep, a lone scuba diver makes their way into the Aquabase, rising into the laboratory from the pool, and sneaks through the Aquabase into the Captain’s quarters. Finding the key to the Captain's safe, the figure opens it and steals the Titanium Morpher. Early the next morning, Vypra and a hoard of batlings are causing trouble in Mariner Bay. The Rangers head in to stop them, finding them in an underground warehouse building. They all fight, and the batlings get beaten up. The Rangers tell Vypra to retreat, but she says she is not going to miss what is about to happen - a portal opens, and the Titanium Ranger drops down in front of the Rangers. The Titanium Ranger easily beats up the surprised Rangers. The Rangers head to the surface to escape from the Titanium Ranger, but he tracks them down. Mitchell calls Carter and tells him to retreat, and the Rangers hurriedly make their escape, while the Titanium Ranger watches.
Mitchell tells the Rangers about the stolen morpher, and they head back out into Mariner Bay to patrol. The city is quiet, but eventually, a flaming comet crashes downtown, and the Titanium Ranger emerges. The Rangers rush to stop him, but again, get knocked around badly by the Titanium Ranger. Just then, Ms F radios the Rangers of a new weapon, and the Power Rangers summon the V-Lancers. Armed with their new weapons, they easily defeat the Titanium Ranger, and knock him down with a supercharged blast.
However, the Titanium Ranger gets back up, his visor gone from his helmet, and gives the Rangers a cold stare. Mitchell, watching the battle from afar, is horrified. As the evil Ranger stumbles forward to take another shot at the Rangers, the Rangers aim at him again and prepare to kill him with a lethal blast. At the last minute, Mitchells orders them not to fire, and to return to the Aquabase. While the Titanium Ranger begs for battle, the Rangers turn and walk away.
Back at base, the Rangers storm in and angrily demand to know why Mitchell stopped them from firing. Mitchell turns to them and announces it was because the Titanium Ranger is Mitchell’s son!
Well, what can I say other than whoa? This episode was unreal. I loved every second of it. From the story of what happened to Ryan, to the mind-blowingly good fight scenes in Mariner Bay, this episode kept me on the edge of my seat from the start till the finish. We’ve got the first genuinely evil Ranger we’ve seen since Tommy was working for Rita in ‘Green With Evil’, and Ryan doesn’t even appear to be under a spell, just out for revenge. Whatever the reason, he was certainly most impressive with the ease at which he took the team down.
A couple of things bothered me though, like how Ryan was able to so easily sneak into the Lightspeed Aquabase, and how he so easily circumvented the effects of morphing with the Titanium Morpher. Apart from that (and Vypra’s uselessness, but heck, I am getting used to her), this episode was totally excellent, proving that PRLR is on the up and up. Kudos all round to cast and crew for a job well done, and I can’t wait to see how this all ends.
Titanium Power, now!
The award for the best line of this episode goes without a doubt to Captain Mitchell, for his line when talking to Dana about the crash - "We can’t change the past." Hold that thought for a season, Captain, and you’ll have access to time travel technology.
