We feed Biologically Appropriate Raw Food (aka BARF or RAW) to our dogs.  We pretty much follow the guidelines of Dr. Ian Billinghurst.

While BARF/RAW is being dubbed the 'latest fad' in feeding dogs, commercialized dry dog food has only been around since WWII.  What did dogs eat before then?  Raw food.  To me, commercialized dry dog food is really the 'latest fad'.

Think about your dog if he was in the wild, fending for himself.  When he takes down a deer, is he going to cook it before he eats it?  Hardly.  What about a rabbit?  Really think they will pick the meat off the bones?  Hardly.

There are very strong opponents to raw food.  Before you listen to them, please note WHO they are.  They are either your neighbors or friends who are not educated in feeding a raw food, the commercialized dry dog food companies or some Vets.  Oh, did you know that Vets do not have to take a nutrition class while in school?  It is elective.  If they do take it, guess who pays for the text books?  Hills Science Diet.

Hills Science Diet brand dogs foods are actually some of the worst kibbles out there to feed your dog!  They still knowingly use BHA, a known cancer causing product to preserve the food.  The 'maintenance' brand used to have ground yellow corn as the main ingredient.  They were laughed at by those people that know how to read a dog food ingredient label, that they finally changed it to have chicken meal first.

To look at a good site that lists pretty much all commercialized dry dog food ingredients go here.

If your dog was recently diagnosed with cancer, I am very sorry.  I highly recommend going to www.b-naturals.com and reading about foods to starve cancer in dogs.  Liberty's sire was diagnosed with cancer and given 3 months to live.  He went 100% raw at that moment and lived another 16 months of a good quality life!

Raw is not for everyone, and yes it can be a bad thing if not done correctly.  I highly recommend going to the following sites and doing research before venturing into a raw diet.
