I am a 9 year old boy who lives on a farm. I have two brothers. My younger brother is named Frank. He is 6 years old. My older brother is named John Paul. He is almost 11. We homeschool, otherwise I wouldn't have time to take care of all of my goats.
I have 25 goats and one guard dog. The goats are: one fullblood Kiko buck, 4 pure breed dairy goats, 1 fullblood Boer nanny, and 19 brush goats. My guard dog is a Maremma.
My buck's name is Rocky. He is from a very rocky farm in Virginia. My Boer nanny is named Rockette. She came from the same farm as Rocky.
My dairy goats came from a dairy farm in Birch River, WV. My brothers and I got to take a tour of the dairy when we picked up my goats. It was very interesting.
My 19 brush goats came from a farm near Salem, WV. Thanks to goats, that farm is one of the cleanest farms for miles.
Rocky likes to play with the guard dog. He seems to be the boss of all the goats.
My brothers and I raised the dairy goats on a bottle last spring. These 4 goats are very tame. When I go outside, the goats will lay down with me on some hay. If I fall asleep, they will wake me up to pet them.
The 19 brush goats are all colors. It has been hard to name them and to remember all the names.
One night, when we first got the 19 brush goats, all the goats took off for the hills. Our guard dog went with them and protected them. When we went looking for them, he barked so that we could find them. Once we caught up with them, he helped us herd them back to their pasture. Then he took off because he knew something that we didn't know---three goats were still loose.
We didn't find those three until the next day. When we tried to round them up, one of them wouldn't come to us. We spent several days hunting for her, but we didn't have any luck finding her. During deer hunting season some hunters saw her, but she just ran off when we went searching.
Many months, after we first lost her, she came down off the hill and rejoined the group. She had survived on only brush and whatever natured provided for over 3 months, yet she was in great shpae and is very healthy even today.
My dog's name is Caesar. He was born in the spring of 1999, so he is still young. But he is a really good guard dog. He lives with the goats full time. Once, he chased off two grown dogs all by himself. Some days I go outside and he plays games with me. I lay my gloves on the ground and he takes off with them. Sometimes, he licks my face.
