So, I guess there aren’t a whole lot of support groups for the sarcophagus in the universe. No ten-step plan or anything like that? Daniel just had to quit cold turkey didn’t he? Because, of course, any other way is boring. The people want to see Daniel is withdrawal, dammit!
I’m not complaining, mind you. I quite liked seeing Daniel going all wacky and hitting guards and aiming guns at Jack and stuff. I’m just saying...
Anyway, the episode itself was a hit-and-miss. The miss being the princess. I think she was a sort of diluted Mary Sue wannabe, and I found the actress herself to be very uninspiring. There was no doubt that the only reason Daniel was marrying her was because of the sarcophagus. I would have personally found it more interesting if perhaps there was a question of why he was “in love” with her. By that, I mean turn the princess into someone who, feasibly, Daniel might have actually gone for. Then, although he was doing things that were generally out of character for him, he wasn’t acting completely crazy, therefore bringing into question how dangerous the sarcophagus actually is, making things way more interesting. It would have also made lines such as how Sam has never really know what true love is a lot more powerful, because it would be through that that we knew Daniel really was way more screwed up than we thought.
The hit of this episode is, of course, Michael Shanks in withdrawal. As I said before, I enjoyed that bit immensely. Although he looked very funny with his eyes all bugged out. And, I’ll admit, the ending (the ending being with Jack and Daniel hugging, not the actual ending) is very sweet. I liked it a lot.
Hmmm...this review isn’t particularly funny, is it? I’d better say some amusing things.
Oh, yes, Daniel’s dress. That was very funny. Royal robes? Yeah, right. It’s a dress. Don’t try to call it anything it isn’t. So in this episode Daniel becomes a cross-dressing addict. Yeah, I love this show
