Introduction to Art
Instructor: Stephanie A. McMullen

Goal:

Allow students to explore both the studio and everyday life applications of art. Using the elements and principles of art we will complete works in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics and possibly wearable or fiber arts.

Student choices:

  1. Be in your seat and ready to learn when the bell rings.
  2. Come to class prepared.
  3. Respect yourself
  4. Respect your neighbors
  5. Respect materials of the school.
  6. Give 100% effort during class.
  7. Participate in projects.
  8. Participate in art shows.
  9. Have artwork displayed.
  10. Participate in critique.

Teacher Expectations and Philosophy on classroom management:

* One thing that each of us own is our behavior. We choose our actions alone. In effect, we also choose the consequences (whether positive or negative) connected to those actions.

* Students may expect the following consequences if negative actions are chosen.

  1. Verbal warning
  2. Instructor conference with student
  3. Phone call home
  4. In case of a severe class disruption or insubordination, students will be immediately referred to the office.

Procedures for Art Classes:

  1. Students will be in their seats and working when the bell rings.
  2. No food or drink allowed in the classroom.
  3. No sleeping in class.
  4. Students will come to class prepared.
  5. Everyone listens to the speaker.
  6. Students will work quietly.
  7. Students will use class time wisely.
  8. Students will not leave the room except in cases of emergency.
  9. Students are expected to use tools and supplies appropriately in the classroom.
  10. Students doing work for another class will have that work confiscated.
  11. Instructor will dismiss the class, not the bell.
  12. Students will not clean up until instructed to do so by the teacher.
