MURCIA

Murcia, Spain

I went to Murcia for the first time during the final year of university. I spent 1 term there, supposedly studying philosophy but actually trying to learn a bit of Spanish and having a good time.

The cathedral in Murcia After I graduated in 1992 there were no jobs for philosophy graduates so I decided to go back to the sun and I managed to get a job as a language assistant at the University of Murcia. This was not the most difficult job in the world as I had very few classes, so I spent most of my time travelling to other parts of Spain, going to the beach and improving my Spanish.

Murcia is a great place to chill out. Small, hot, relaxed and close to a huge variety of beaches - what more could you ask for?

Murcia

Murcia (pop. 350,000), situated in the centre of the Segura River valley, is the regional capital. It enjoys a mild climate, with an average annual temperature of 65oF owing to the influence of the Mediterranean, which lies only 25 miles off.

Is both a monumental city where architectural gems of great beauty are to be found and, at the same time, a modern metropolis with a great amount of contemporary activity in the form of exhibitions, theatre, music, opera and dance.

The wide variety of tourist facilities, coupled with the resources needed for organising conference and conventions, make Murcia the ideal venue for such events. The city has a modern Conference Centre seating 1,800.
