Course Objective
The objective of this course is to
provide the basic understanding of geography, and apply these to the the physical and cultural geographies of
regions throughout the world.
Expectations
1.
Follow directions.
2.
Be in seat and ready at the beginning of the tardy bell.
3.
Bring textbook, workbooks, paper, writing utensil, and 3-ring notebook
each day.
4.
No profanity; no heads down.
5.
No food or drink.

Attendance
Students
are expected to attend class each day and to be on time. This course strictly
enforces the district's attendance policy. Students missing 6 or more days will
be required to pass a comprehensive exam in order to pass the course. Three
unexcused tardies equals 1 absence when calculating student attendance. Please
read the pages in the student handbook for more specific attendance policies.
Make-Up Policy
Only
EXCUSED absences will be allowed to make-up ANY missed work. Students will have
3 school days after an absence, including the day they return, to bring
verification to Student Services to receive an excused absence.
Any
home/class work assigned prior to the student’s absence(s) is due on the day
of the student’s return to class (See Student Handbook). It is the student’s
responsibility to present the “blue slip” to the teacher. Make-up tests are
NOT the same as given on test day, and are only given before school, after
school, or on the next test day. Students must make prior arrangements with the
teacher to make up a test.
Grade
calculations will be based on the following descriptions and formula.

1/3 Components
of this category will
consist of, but not limited to, lecture notes, bell-ringers, and workbook. These
will be collected at random, at the end of each chapter, or on test day. Items
will be individually assessed. Beyond the Book Program
1/3 This
program attempts to inform and engage students outside the confines of the
textbook. Components of this program include, but not limited to, reading and
discussing a novel relevant to cultural geography, technology-related projects,
and FCAT Prep activities. This
9-weeks the course will participate in the Social Science Fair and read a minimum of
1 novels. The Fair consists of student teams developing exhibits that focus on
global issues. Students will create display boards, research-based papers, and
activities for presentations. For the novel component,
students will read and be assessed on a teen-appropriate fictional or
non-fictional story that deals will a geographic region/culture. More details about each component will be distributed and discussed throughout the 9 weeks. Items for each component will be individually assessed. Unit
Tests
1/3 Testing of content mastery will be
conducted at the end of each unit. Tests will include matching,
multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, and essay questions. Make-up
tests cover the same material, but are not the same tests as those given on the
scheduled test day. Semester Exam The semester exam will be
administered within the last 2 days of the each 9-weeks. The exam will include
matching, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, and essay questions. It will be
comprehensive in scope.
