Ob-Gyn - VERY busy department. Student workload is moderate to heavy. Overnight call about q6-q7.
Minimal teaching.
SURGERY - Heavy to Extremely Heavy workload. Very labor intensive. Call q3 - q4...NO SLEEP.

Evaluation (be honest but polite): Ob is pretty good there in that there are many cases and you are either the only student on the team or else one of two, the other being a Yale student. Psych is really fun, mostly outpatient which is exactly wha
you want if you are not likely to pursue psychiatry. Very good teaching.

s ASAP to schedule. JFK only takes one person a month. It is a great hospital full of nice people. See you on the floors!:-)

Hi,
For all SGU looking for internships in Medicine. I am currently at this wonderful program.... little known SGU affliate (for those who are intrested in rotations), It is a Yale University affiliate with TOP of the line Internal medicine
Community Hospital based program.
People who have rotated through here can tell you IT DOES NOT GET any Better. Very friendly atmosphere, everybody treated with respected and courtesy (unlike some other neighboring states where med students and interns are the lowest life form). SGU grad
have also done well here....Next to FREE ($200/mo) HOUSING for residents, good lunches, faculty eager to teach,
work load very tolerable.....WHAT Can we ask for more???
Call Bay Shore for rotations or electives....you won't regret it....openings however are few....!!! Good Luck!! Bye..
Good LucK to those taking Part I or II....IT IS TOUGH>>>STUDY HARD!!!

I went to N&N hospital in England to do my OB/GYN core rotation. This is the worst teaching institution with which I have been affiliated. After 3 weeks, I still had not been allowed to touch a patient. I had "witnessed" 2 deliveries.
They have the largest midwife teaching program in the UK and midwife students get priority over medical students. All of my lectures were either canceled or no one showed up to give them. VERY UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE. I left after 4 weeks and I am countin
this as an elective. Don't expect to do pap smears, pelvic exams or really anything. When showing up for clinic, I was ask to leave a few times because a midwife was in training!! Don't do OB/GYN at Norfolk and Norwich

OB at Danbury is great; but you definitely have to be a self starter. You are the only student on the service and you have to be persistent to benefit from the teaching opportunities. If you don't go looking for experiences here, they won't come to you. I
you think that you can avoid work, you can try, but the residents take notice when you are conspicuously absent.
An 'A' for those honestly looking for OB/GYN experience.

This is a decent rotation. As a student you are expected to play a major role on the service--you write notes (no suprise), stay on call q4 for the entire 6 weeks and we even have to do formal presentations for the residents (they use YOUR presentations t
help them prepare for their boards) and attendings. We work/sweat very diligently. The teaching is great, but the weekend calls are a bummer. Baltimore, which has a few sights to see, is alot like Crooklyn or Newark, but you only need to drive about 15 m
nutes or so to get to the suburbs.
