He was hit head-on by a drunk driver, traveling the wrong way on Highway 100 in St. Louis Park. He was on his way home from a birthday party for teammate Kevin Garnett. Sealy, Garnett and at least one other player had dinner at the Monte Carlo Bar & Cafe in downtown Minneapolis late Friday night. Manager Tony Rimarcik said a group of six or seven people had gathered in a separate room and left the restaurant just before 1 a.m.  Malik's blood alcohol at the time of the accident was within legal limits. Neither Sealy nor Phengsene was wearing a seat belt when they crashed about 4 a.m. While an airbag deployed in Phengsene's truck, Sealy's vehicle didn't have an airbag. He was just 30 years old.

Malik is survived by his wife Lisa, his son Malik Remington (Remi) and his parents, Sidney and Ann.

Malik Sealy was better than the average basketball player. He brought to the fans of Minnesota toughness and courage to help the Timberwolves become one the most talented teams in the NBA.

The only Wolves game that I attended this year was the Monday night game on Jan. 17 against Indiana. Indiana  were leading 100-98 with 1.7 seconds left. The ball is inbounded to Sealy and he puts up the shot just beyond the arc and drains it for the 101-100 win. The whole Target Center went nuts. That is a memory that will stick with me forever.
