Mentioned in every guide book and deservedly so. If you have been making pizza as long as the chefs at Baffetto you should know a thing or too about the subject and these guys most definitely do. Brusque service just adds to the atmosphere and the waiters enjoy a bit of good humored banter

This place is brilliant. Right in the centre of tourist Rome but full of Italians who know where to eat excellent food a great prices. Difficult to recommend any one dish they really all are superb.
Diligenza Rossa Via Merulana 271. Rome Roman Spaghetti and clams 30,000
Decor lets this place down but if you are looking for good nosh and you have an eye for value this place is well worth a visit. Will probably become a regular haunt if your staying in Rome for some time. Recommended by Manja Teich the well known graphic designer.

 Perhaps the closest you are going to get to a chippy (Fish and Chips for non Britons) in Rome. Having said that there aren't any chips and no pot of tea but the deep fried salted cod is excellent so what the heck - have a cheap bottle of beer instead.

This is a real find. One that you wont find in the guide books as it is only open for lunch or Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights to give the cook a chance to rest. A real family type of trattoria with the mother doing the cooking. 
La Paella 2 Vic D Luce 3/5 Trast Spanish Paella 32,000
There isn't much of a choice for spanish food in Rome but this one is a sure bet. The chef really knows his Paella and if you fancy a change from pasta and pizza this place comes highly recommended. Good house wine and a young crowd. They also have a restaurant in Anguillara. Highly recommended by Carlo Zapolschi the famous computer expert in Rome.

One of the finest fish restaurants in Italy. If you can afford to splash out then this has got to be the place to visit. Excellent wines and a imaginative cuisine has put this location on the top level of restaurants

Justly famous for the quality of food and friendly service. Good wines also make this an excellent spot to visit for good Italian food served with style. Very popular with actors and politicians.

A real taste of the Tyrol. Great food and wonderful beer makes this a trip to the Mountains of Austria and you can stay in Rome at the same time! Great atmosphere and a good place to start the evening. The beers are amongst the best you will find in Rome.

A well respect restaurant combining classical ingredients in more modern styles, always rates very highly with gourmets as the styles seem never to flag with new inventions and the occasional stroke of pure genius, expensive but still great value for money. The famous food critic Derek d'Sousa rates this as one of the very best in Italy.

As the name suggests this is a fish restaurant but no ordinary one,. The theme is Sicilian and the atmosphere is pure Palermo. There is no other restaurant in Rome that will so effectively transports the customer to a location than La Mediteranee. In fact the restaurant is shaped like the bow of a ship. An excellent selections of wines make this spot one of the finest in Rome. Popular with gourmets and journalists.

This was formerly a "Vini & Olio" shop where Roman bought their oil and wine. Wine is still on offer - in fact very good wine but the now in stylish surroundings. Roman bricks from the roof and vintage wine fill the alcoves. Popular with the intellectual crowds, professors rub shoulders with students, poets and artists. Superb food too.

The walls of this stylish restaurant are covered with photographs of the famous stars who have visited. Its not surprising that the place is so popular as the food is exquisite and the Nicola the host greets his clients with such a typically Italian welcome that you are made to feel at home immediately. Considering the prestige of the place it offers excellent value for money. Don't be surprised to find yourself sitting next to whoever is filming in Rome at the time.

Puglian food is honest, robust and full of different flavours. A superb restaurant offers great cooking and a stylish surroundings. The fish is especially good but also try one of the best lasagnas in Rome. Great value for the centre of town.

A very up market establishment offering wonderful food in visually stimulating surroundings. The walls are covered with superb masterpieces. Its hard to believe that you are surrounded by works from the great artists of the last two centuries. The food is also top quality and Luigi  the host greets his clients with such a typically Italian welcome that you are made to feel at home immediately. Surprisingly inexpensive and definitely worth a visit.

A charming little restaurant near Termini offering great quality food with the freshest ingredients and a friendly atmosphere. In business since 1894 and still a popular place with local office workers who know good food and good value in an area where most restaurants are catering for the tourist market.
