First, the bad news: you cannot post a pic to the group, using the posting program in eGroups.
Second, some good news: you do not need any special hardware to post pix.
Ordinarily a member posts pix that are on his hard drive, using the same mailer program he uses to receive & send e-mail. If he wants to post a pic from another website, there are a couple of ways, described in:
Directly from web site (faq 5)
Pasting URL into e-mail (faq 6)
These two techniques are particularly useful to webTVers who do not have much space for storing pix. Some caution should be used with these two methods, however, because many web masters these days don't allow off-site links. What the members will see is a broken link instead of the pic (see faq 4 for more information).
If the mailer provides an alternative of either in line (embedded) or attached, it is wiser to select attached, because more mailers can handle attached pix.
Also, remember if you attach more than one pic, AOLers receive a zip file that has to be unzipped before the pix can be viewed. The reverse is also true: when AOLers send more than one pic in an e-mail, the rest of us will receive a zipped file. With the possibility of viruses lurking in zipped files, many of us are reluctant to open them.
One more thing with AOL, there are several pic formats available, but if *.art is selected the rest of the world can't see them without going through an elaborate procedure to convert them to more common formats. Stick with JPG and GIF formats. BMP is an old format that takes up a great deal of space and, consequently, a lot of time to download. Personally, I just don't bother with them.
If a member is using a mailing service like Hotmail or Viso, the procedure for attaching pix is a bit involved and usually takes a bit more time, but it is, as they say, "intuitive." You can pretty much guess how to do it with the instructions given. If you have problems, do write, letting me know what service you use.
