FAQ 6
Posting Pictures
From the Web
(another way)

1. Getting the URLs (addresses)

I'm assuming that both thumb and original pic are available to you. If you have only the original size, we can fake a thumb later.

Right-click on the thumb (or pic) which will generate a drop-down menu, like the one illustrated to the right.

Notice at the bottom of the menu there are two commands. Select Copy Image Location. The URL (=Image Location) will be transferred to the clipboard (= a place in memory that remembers stuff automatically).

2. Transferring thumb (or pic) to e-mail msg
2.1. Open a new msg in the Netscape messenger and left-click in the body of the msg.

There are shortcuts which you will discover later, but this method is easier to understand and remember.

2.2.  Click on  to produce the drop-down menu, which you will use to insert the thumb (or pic) into the text of the msg. In that menu click on the icon for inserting a pic (3rd icon down: ).

2.3. This will display a box in which you can enter the URL of the thumb (or pic).

2.4. Click in the image location window (see illustration above); right-click to display a drop-down menu; select Paste. This will transfer the URL you copied to the clipboard in step 1. to the window.

2.5. Click OK. The picture from the web should be transferred to your message.

3. Creating link from thumb to original pic
3.1. Go back to the website and, clicking on the thumb, select Copy Link Location.

3.2. Return to your msg and click on the icon you used in step 2.2, selecting this time the first icon down (). This produces another window that looks like this:

3.3. Enter the URL for location you want to link to. Just right-click in the window and select Paste and click OK. This action transfers the link location, acquired in step 3.1.

When you send the msg, both thumb and link will go with it. Recently I've seen sites where the webmaster does not permit this external linking, but it still is the exception rather than the rule.

Good luck!
