Steranko @ the Cat Club
SunsetStrip,Los Angeles,California,U.S.A
Londoners Steranko are already making considerable in roads on their debut stateside visit. While
the midpaced melodic rock of their recordings is infectious,it belies Steranko's punky unpredictable
and eclectic live shows.Fronted by the energetic and endearing Lee Mangan,a live wire onstage and
off, this talented bunch offers a fresh take on Stone Temple Pilots, the Pixies and the Doors through
tasteful arrangements and a mobile yet muscular rhythm section.Low key, grooving verses and
savvy spoken word sections bloom into expansive and embracing choruses, held aloft by hummable
harmonies.Already quite a buzz back in the u.k,their wide eyed and effortlessly enthusiastic
performances are quickly winning Steranko friends, fans and industry suitors over here too.Their L.A
blitz is self booked, self promoted and offers a rare chance to see a truly independant band taking
their international baby steps.

STERANKO BLASTS IN FROM LONDON TOWN
"HEAD WEST, YOUNG MAN, HEAD WEST!"
That is the plan for STERANKO, named after cult comic book artist Jim Steranko, this British four
piece are about to grace this wonderful land called the USA with something that has been missing
in recent years from the U.K. Good quality music!! Not 'Brit pop', not 'Girl pop' and not 'Boy pop' but
stunning quality rock with a cutting edge freshness that will make your ass wiggle.
Get their E.P. '2000 CIGARETTES', released early in 2001 and you will love it. See them live and
you will be stunned!!!. Beautifully crafted songs created with just the right mixture of power and
melody brought to life with one of the most explosive live shows witnessed for many a year. Miss
this band and regret it!!
Pyrotechnics are no match for Lee Mangan the Steranko front man. A mixture of Iggy Pop and Jim
Morrison with the energy of a fireball and a crafty amount of cheekiness and charm are just some of
the delicious ingredients Mr. Mangan's STERANKO has to offer.
The debut C.D. has received rave reviews and gained considerable airplay prompting Claire
Sturgess of London's XFM to quote: 'THIS IS A BAND WE ON THIS STATION CAN HIGHLY
RECOMMEND'.
With the recording done the band hit the live circuit playing sell out shows around the U.K. and in
London. These shows were amazingly well received due to the high energy performances, great
songs and Lee Mangan's natural ability to excite a crowd, resulting in such reviews as:
'Steranko did not exactly take to the stage, they ripped it apart. A non stop barrage of brilliant
songs rocked up to the max. Musically untouchable and brought to life by the on stage antics of
front man Lee Mangan'. 'You're the most ugly audience we've ever played to, but I love you all ' he
states and then proceeds to climb over speaker stacks and swings on the lighting rig without
dropping a note. This is no gimmick it is all real, pure energy and entertainment wrapped up
together that has not been seen for years. From start to finish a real show. It is not at all surprising
to learn that Steranko are off to America in May. What is surprising is that they are not yet signed!!'

Resident DJ Twang keeps things going before Steranko “arrive”. Singer Lee
Mangan is a really funny, eccentric character-and that’s before he goes on stage!
They start the set; maybe ironically, with “Chemicals” causing Lee, whose vices are
Evian (normally ending up over himself or the crowd!) and Starbucks coffee, to leap
around the stage like a frog covered in itching powder! The band carry on through
their high powered set including “Burns Deep” and “Decision” with ease, but hardly
bat an eyelid to their singer’s crazy antics (by now they; another Lee (Elvey), Guy
and John) must be unshocked, almost oblivious to their updated “Jim Morrison on
caffeine” frontman.
He swings from the lighting rigs and scales then leaps from the speakers in true
athletic style, never getting out of breath. He amuses the crowd with constant
comical rapport and even treats us to an impromptu Bon Jovi sing along. The
audience enjoys more electric songs including “Nonstopfullonbackdropcarryon”
(what a title!) before reaching the end and having a breather. Loud chanting entitles
us to another track “Sexual Thing” bringing the experience to an end. Lee falls into
the crowd, arms outstretched, like some sort of rock Messiah to much applause.
With a sound resembling a mixture of Black Crowes/ Aerosmith/ Red Hot Chili
Peppers it’s no wonder L.A have welcomed them with open arms.
