What We Do
What we do with those sticks is called Shinai (same as the sticks name). We get together at about 8:30 PM (2030 for you military minded folks) and begin to practice. Depending on when you arrive you'll see us playing one of several games.
The Games We Play
Circle Up Speed Circle Standard Battle
King/Queen Battles Small Teams Free For All
The Card Game Pesant Revolt Marbles
The Gold Game Special Weapons
Circle Up
Top of Page
The first thing we do every evening is Circle Up. This is where anyone who want's to participate arranges themselves in a circle, or reasonable faximilie of one, and play one on one to first blood (first legal hit). We take turns entering the circle 2 at a time, with the loser of each match exiting and the next person in line going in. Direction of rotation is determined after the first match. Both fighters must stay within the circle.
Speed Circle
Top of Page
This is the same thing as the regular circle but there is no pause or honor between battles. As soon as one or both fighters are hit they shout dead loudly and step out and the next fighters step in and begin combat.
Standard Battle
Top of Page
Two captains are elected from the whole motley crew of us and choose teams. First pick is determined by rock-paper-scisors. The teams then go to opposite ends of the field and begin on a call out of "Be Armed, Be Warned, Begin!". The battle is over when all of one side is eliminated.
Kings/Queens
Top of Page
The captains of these teams are either Kings or Queens (male or female). The battle can be conducted one of several ways. Either a standard battle, healing (the king/queen has the power to heal a limb with a touch), mobile (the king/queen can move/fight on the line), or imobile (king/queen can't move at all). Any or all of these battles are over when the King/Queen is killed.
Small Teams
Top of Page
Same thing as a standard battle but with only 2, 3, or 4 man teams.
Free-For-All
Top of Page
Jus as it sounds, every fighter is for themselves. No honor, no quarter.
The Card Game
Top of Page
The two captains are Kings. Their first pick is a Queen, the second is an Ace, the next is the Jack, from there they pick as usual. The King and Queen have the same roles as their respective games, but the game is only over if the King dies and only the Queen can heal. The Ace has a poison blade, this means that any legal hit (this includes gauntlets) kills the victim. The Jack is the only fighter that can have more than one sword. They have two swords. Everyone else is normal and fights with only one sword.
Pesant Revolt
Top of Page
Our 3 nobles (Cash, Greg, and Rich) each choose 2 vassals (depending on attendance). These 9 warriors face the remainder of the group as one team. If a noble is killed his vassals leave the field with him regardless of their injury status. A vassal may die without consequence to the noble.
Marbles
Top of Page
This works the same way as small man teams except that the teams are chosen by color. Blue, red, green, yellow, black, and white. Six teams in all. A head count is taken and the marbles are divided to make even teams with the exception of the black team there is always just one black marble. Fighters can hint at there color, they can say there color and they can lie about there color! No fighter can show their marble until the end of the game when all fighter believe they are all on the same team. Then all fighters have to show their marble. If any is of a different color the battle continues.
Gold
Top of Page
Gold is played directly after the Marble game. All fighters keep their marbles and a free for all battle starts. When a fighter gets a kill they get one marble even if the fighter they just killed has more than one. The battle is played until there is just one fighter left on the field. Then we count how many marbles everyone has. The one with the most marbles wins. If there is a tie for first then a duel is fought for a winner of the game.
Specials

Any weapon ( pole-arms, maces, etc...) may be used by any fighter qualified to use the weapon. Teams are picked as usual and the battle is a standard battle.
