THE INCREDIBLE LUMP
by Steve Sutton
Doctor David Spanner, dietician, dentist, searching for a way to tap into the hidden cavities that all humans have.
(Various shots of a dentist, alone in his office, strapped into his dentist chair.)
Then, an accidental overdose of morphine alters his body chemistry.
(Room starts shaking, display of Richter scale with its needle going from the left end of the meter to the right, close-up of Spanner accidentally pushing the plunger of a hypo all the way down, hard, injecting a whole needle of morphine into his arm as he screams.)
And, now, when David Spanner grows angry or outraged, his body turns into an uncoordinated lump of unfeeling flesh.
(Several punk kids are kicking Spanner hard, who's curled up in a ball on the ground in an alley.)
Punk: Man, you gonna give us yo wallet or what???
The dentist is immune to pain, and is pursued by an investigative reporter.
(Spanner is standing on the steps of a public library, facing the back of a cardboard display of the cartoon character Mr. Magoo that says "read a book".)
Spanner: Mister Magoo, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.
(An ice cream truck explodes for no apparent reason.)
David Spanner is believed to have feeling, and he must let the world think that he has feeling, until he can find a way to get the morphine out of his veins.
(Spanner is standing over a grave, half of him starts sagging and yells like a retarded person.)
