THE REALISTS
Formed in September 2000 by Lucyjws, the group comprises (thus far) fans from the UK, Australia and New Zealand, who meet over the Internet. While the character of Steve Loxton officially departed from The Bill in 1997, thanks to episode re-screenings on UK Gold and UKTV (Aust), fans were able to continue seeing Steve Loxton in action. The group took its name from Steve Loxton’s declaration in the 1997 episode “PC” that he was a “realist”, a belief appreciated by his fans that, in spite of his methods and attitude, his outlook may be regarded as realistic, in that he sought to ‘get the job done’ and was one to speak his mind where others remained silent. It was felt that such a longstanding character deserved a fangroup, while importantly also being the means by which fans could share information, based on what they have heard or read, about Tom Butcher and his career. This has been particularly helpful for those fans in Australia and New Zealand who otherwise receive little or no information from the media, compared to their UK counterparts. With this in mind, this website was also created. Above all, while seeking to share information with others, the group also desires to be respectful of Tom Butcher and his privacy.
