| The pub is on the site of the old Millbank prison. About a hundred or so years ago, prisoners were kept in what is now the pub cellars. In particular, there was one convict who was to be sent to Australia. However, rather than make such a journey, he hanged himself, in what is now a beer cellar. If one goes there, one will find a distinctly eerie atmosphere of low ceilings, strange smells, and nooks and crannies where prisoners were kept. |
