Mysterious footsteps, smashed glasses and pint glasses swinging like pendulums at The Mug House in Claines are thought to be the work of a former drinker called Bert.
Apparently, former landlord Wally Trow gave Bert a challenge when he used to drink at the pub. Because of Berts unwillingness to buy drinks, Wally told Bert if he was a ghost he would be too mean to give anyone a fright. Then Bert died. This would have been in the 1940s and that's when Wally claimed the noises started. Wally said he started hearing the sound of someone walking upstairs from the bedroom landing to where the safe was kept. |
