ROSCOMMON
rathpeak house
This house is believed to be haunted by a young girl who, centuries ago fell in love with a ploughman who belonged to a family which harboured a lot of ill feeling with her own family. The girls brother, a soldier, discovered his sisters illicit affair and shot her lover. The heartbroken girl was then locked in an attic room at Rathpeak and left to starve to death by her tyrannical parents. She endured the torture for several days before killing herself by constantly banging her head against the wall. The ghostly figure of a distraught young girl has since been seen at an upstairs window, and other witnesses have told of hearing a slow, but continuous knocking, followed by an overwhelming silence.
