Desert Song by Def Leppard

An alternative transcription in standard tablature.

Desert Song is one of my all time favourite Def Leppard tracks. What follows is my own transcription of the solos by Steve Clark and Phil Collen... but this is no ordinary transcription. This is the version of the solos I play if I'm suffering guitar injuries, or have been playing for so long that it's starting to get a bit painful (I'm addicted to my guitar!! :)). If you suffer from guitar injuries, or are just starting out playing guitar then hopefully this will be of use to you.

These are simplified versions of Steve and Phil's solos - a few of the bends have been replaced with slides (I find bends absolute torture if I've been playing for too long). However, these don't differ too much from the recorded version, and if you're playing along to your CD you probably won't notice much difference.

The bends in Steve's solo have been left in (no matter how much my fingers are killing me I always try to keep them in), but there is an alternative to the ones in the third bar of his solo listed at the bottom of the page. This is marked as **, and replaces the bar marked *. These particular two bends I find pretty painful if I've been playing for longer than I should, so often have to resort to the alternative version listed below.

All but one of Phil's bends have been taken out of bars 5-6 and replaced with slides. However, the start and end of his solo are transcribed almost exactly as they are on the CD - you lose a lot of fun if you simplify them!

The transcriptions are set out below as on the actual track version - Phil's solo immediately before Steve's.

Phil's solo (1-2) Phil's solo (3-4) Phil's solo (5-6) Phil's solo (7-8) Steve's solo (1-2) Steve's solo (3-4) Steve's solo (5-6) Steve's solo (7-8) Steve's solo (alternative to 3)
