Steve Clark: In His Own Words

Some of my own personal favourite quotes from Steve, whether they're included in here because I think they're funny, intelligent, sweet or as in most cases all of the above! :)

"I didn't get into this band to make a lot of money. I wanted to play music to as many people as I could."

"We are the most boring band in the world"

About 'Wasted': It was the first song I ever wrote. I was on a bus going to rehearsals one day, and suddenly I had this riff going through my head. I bolted out of the bus, ran down to where we were rehearsing, and put the riff on tape. It was a real exciting experience.

"When you haven't played for a long time you really appreciate how wonderful the road is. You really do miss the playing, the fans, the excitement."

"We only try to please ourselves. Our success really didn't happen because of luck - we worked very hard in the studio when we recorded Pyromania. Our producer, Mutt Lange, pushed us to keep trying to improve on what we had already done."

Interviewer to Steve and Phil: Do you have regular girlfriends and what do they do in real life?
Steve: Mine's a model. (laughs) What a f*cking cliche.

Interviewer: Actually, strippers seem to be the big fad this year, at least with L.A. bands.

Steve: Well, I better train her to be a stripper, then.

Phil: Shame I'm not from L.A. But no one in the band's married or anything...

Steve: Oh, let's get one point clear right now. I'm not married. Everyone in America thinks I'm f*cking married.

Phil: You are...

Steve: Listen, you w*nker, shut up. I'm not married. I never have been married. Thank you.

"We've never believed in stretching out a song by playing long solos. The only reason I could see for playing 20 minute songs would be if you didn't have enough good material - that's never been a problem for us. We don't want do anything that might slow us down."

With Pyromania at the top of the charts, an interviewer asked Steve and Sav: Did you expect the album to do this well?
Sav: We really didn't give it that much thought. When we were recording it we got so wrapped up in making the music that we didn't think about how well it would do.
Steve: Bullsh*t Sav. (laughs) You were saying "Hey this is a hit! This is a hit!" when we were doing Photograph.

"Phil pushes me on stage every night. He tends to play more against what I'm doing and that gives us a much fuller sound on stage."

More coming soon!
