She never said a word...
Laying there, ghastly white
Eyes flickering with a silent joy
As she stared up at the ceiling
Glowing under a blacklight
She never said a word...
As I clapped my hands over her face
Murmured her name
Silent joy and silence must look the same
God, please, let me take her place
She never said a word...
When I shook her shoulders, slapped her face
Knocked the needle from her hand
Room grew quiet; the junkies weary
And I bent and kissed her wedding band
She never said a word...
Two days later, cold hilltop
Black box lowers - makes the nightmare stop
Ashes to ashes; my heart still burns
I died with her
But she never said a word
