The Blue and the Gray

The blue and the gray walk together tonight
Fifes and drums
Yankee Doodle
Dixie
One hundred forty years...

One hundred forty years of healing
Bring the blue and the gray together on this night
In this parade
Grandsons with six or seven greats in their title march in time
Purpose united

To play the music, live the history
And remember the brave men that died.

What will our grandsons do
Three times fourscore and twenty years,
Seven times great from now?

Will they march with the ones
Whose grandfathers, seven times great
Held the oil?
Will they all march in a parade,
Playing the same melodies, one of ours, one of theirs?

Will they mourn those who died with no sons or grandsons,
Or grandsons seven times great to march for them?

Will we need to wait that long?
