On Mother's Day

It's Mother's Day
The day that you're supposed to hug Mom,
Give her candy, flowers
Bury her in sweet sentiment

But Mom can't use most of that anymore
She passed beyond the need for food
She got her last flowers a year ago
I talked to her this morning
I hope she heard me

But there's a second mom in my life
She didn't raise me
Or spank me
Or bring me into the world
But she's Mom, nonetheless

She cooks most of my meals, pays my bills
Cleans my house, washes my shorts
Takes care of my every need

She's my shoulder to cry on, my rock in the storm
She tells me when I'm wrong and convinces me when I'm right
She's my strength, my church, she's everything I believe in
She's the one person who keeps me sane

She gave me my two beautiful children
She's as patient with them as she is with me
She's that one person that I can trust to always support me
The one person that always understands

She's my love
She's my Chell
She didn't bring me into life
She brought me into the living
