A Normal Way of Life

This was motivated by a poem on Elite Skills, written about abttered women by a victim. It's amazing what people can find normal.

It's the normal way of life
And normal can be so comfortable
How can others be different?
It's hard to think of another way.

Himalayan mountain retreat
Air's thin, snow on the breeze
Hauling things on your head
It's the normal way of life

African native, loincloth, spear
Hunting animals on foot
Grinning through missing teeth
It's the normal way of life

Catholic priest, Latin mass
"Forgive me father for I have sinned"
No wife, no brood
It's the normal way of life

It's the normal way of life
And normal can be so comfortable
How can others be different?
It's hard to think of another way.

Shack built of cardboard
Cold wind, soup kitchen, handouts
Old clothes, sneers, Mad Dog
It's the normal way of life

Double bed, single person
Silver hair, spotted hands
Pictures of a wedding, a family
It's the normal way of life

Slurred words, twisted hands
Electric wheelchair
Shaking, scrawny limbs
It's the normal way of life

It's the normal way of life
And normal can be so comfortable
How can others be different?
It's hard to think of another way.

Late night street corners,
Short skirts, long legs
Doing "tricks" for someone named "John"
It's the normal way of life

Theft, pain, anxiety
Tweaking and looking
Just one more fix
It's the normal way of life

Got to make him happy
A bit of displeasure
Slammed across the room
It's the normal way of life

It's the normal way of life
And normal can be so comfortable
How can others be different?
It's hard to think of another way
