Pink FloydThe Publius EnigmaAnd several more? |

Indeed, there is more! Several months after the album was released, a message appeared on the alt.music.pink-floyd newsgroup, sent by someone who called himself 'Publius'. Publius announced that the Division Bell, if well read, would lead to a hidden treasure. Using letter codes and lyrics, he got the fans to speculate about what he meant. Of course, at first many were suspicious: it could easily be a hoax. But Publius promised a sign. We got many.
Two signs showed up in the Division Bell tour, after being announced by Publius. The first, announced as 'flashing white lights' at the Miami concert, turned out to be the words 'Publius' and 'Enigma' written on the light boxes in front of the stage. The second appeared during a show at Earls Court, London, which was later broadcasted worldwide: the word 'Enigma' appeared during Another Brick In The Wall, part Two, as a writing on the wall.
As further proof appeared, Publius gave more clues. Many enthousiastic fans now commenced the search for the hidden meaning of The Division Bell. Most of the outcomes can be found at Eric Spierings site.
I will put some of my own thoughts about the enigma on this page, because most of them are just loose thoughts. Comments are welcome.
The P could mean Pink. But there is no F for Floyd. Why? Because it would be too obvious? Or just because they couldn't find a propper abbreviation? The P might stand for Pink Floyd as a whole. Or... it might refer to Publius! Then the E could mean Enigma.
If we look at the P.U.L.S.E. cover, we see several 'icons' with PF references. There is a Plane with Pyramids, and Pigeons. So the right top corner is the P.
To the left of these would be located the U. I see water, an ocean, the sea, but no U-word. Let's continue nevertheless.
On the L-place, we see some sort of water. But it's not really water, is more of a Liquid.
Next would be the S... Semen, Sperm, take your pick.
And finally the E of Eggs! Boy, that was easy. Now back to the U.
