Biographer and literary critic Lytton Strachey (1880-1932) wrote in a much more witty style than his Victorian predecessors. A member of the Bloomsbury Group of authors, he wrote mainly for periodicals, but his most famous work was Eminent Vicotirans, a collection of short biographies.

Between 1897 and 1899 he studied Latin, Greek, English literature, history and maths at University College, Liverpool. Whilst there, he  lived at 80 Rodney Street. Later on in his life, he was offered the Chair of English literature at Liverpool University.
