Belinda Go-Go's for Playboy

In all the years that I have written for numerous College and University projects and magazines as well as for this great web site that you are reading (hey I like it!) I never thought that I would head an article with Belinda (Carlisle) and Playboy magazine.

Now anyone who knows me will know that for the better part of 13 years I worshiped the ground that Belinda walked on and the idea of the 'nice girl' of pop in the nude does little for me!

Okay to the general public Belinda is pretty much a has-been of the 80s pop scene who seems to only get real success through performing on tours with fellow 80s icons like Culture Club and Heaven 17. BUT, to another audience the REAL Belinda is something else.

I'll be the first to admit that sans Runaway Horses and Real Belinda's musical career has been a bit of a stinker with the exception a few odd releases (All God's Children not being one of them), BUT as a Go-Go Belinda shines like no other.

When the spotlight is taken off her she shed her 'nice girl' image and rock out so bad that she makes Courtney Love look like an amateur.

When I found out that Belinda had been a drug addict shortly after becoming a fan in '87 I wasn't shocked, when I read about the extent of what she/the Go-Go's did I wasn't shocked but when I found out about Playboy I thought it was some joke!

It's not the fact that she is 42, it's Belinda! The woman who I have followed all those years, The one person that I never imagined to do a pictorial.

Now, don't get me wrong, I am not one of these people who believe in censorship and the whole BS that nudity is wrong, far the opposite (but that's another article).

I'll be honest she has an incredible body and like the rest of the Go-Go's is a genuinely nice person, always has time for the fans. When I met her in '96 she personalized a photograph "To Steven Bel Carl xx" and anyone who is a fan knows that Belinda rarely personalizes and that makes you feel good!

I have never really looked at Belinda in a sexual way, no denying that she is (in my opinion) one of the all time most beautiful women I have ever seen and is one of the biggest role models on my life.

I turned Veggie shortly after seeing her live in 1990 (that and constant aggravation from other sources) and it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. She brought to the front (with Jane, Gina, Kathy and Charlotte) animal rights with their work with PeTA (People for the ethical treatment of animals).

Unlike many who appear in Playboy she has a brain of her own and is more than just a pretty face. She has the substance to back it all up.

So is this Playboy spread any good?

Going from the preview picture (left) it looks as if the pictorial is going to be a class one and I wish her well with if.

With any luck the spread will help push sales of the amazing God Bless the Go-Go's CD which can't be a bad thing!
