Clerks Uncensored
aka Clerks The Animated Series
Starring Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Jason Mewes, Charles Barkley, Alec Baldwin.
Not such along time ago and not in a galaxy far,far away, Kevin (Clerks/Dogma) Smith was asked to write and produce a cartoon series based upon his popular debut movie Clerks by US television giants ABC. The result was not liked too much and canceled after only one episode.
Now nearly a year after it nearly first debuted Clerks TAS (the animated series) has hit DVD in a package that is pure Kevin Smith Heaven.
Smith has done to this little known series what he did with his critical bomb that was Mallrats and turned out a DVD that is a must buy for any self respecting DVD collector!
If you are not familiar with Clerks the movie all you need to know is that 'slackers' Dante and Randall work in a Convenience and Video store and spend their time discussing pop-culture (like Star Wars to which the shows continue Smith's long running homage's and gags) while Jay and silent Bob are always there to save the day.
With all six episode that were made crammed nicely onto a beautiful two disc packaged this is a self contained piece of hilarity that should have been given a chance before the plug was so quickly pulled on it.
Episode one sets the tone by introducing the characters including the millionaire Leonardo Leonardo (Alec Baldwin) whose forefathers founded the town where Dante and Randall work.
What follows is six incredibly funny 20 minute episodes that'll have you in hysterics from start to finish that is more on a par with an adult Simpsons than South Park!
The Shows
Episode 1: Leonardo Leonardo opens a Quicker Stop in Leonardo and attempts to put the Quick Stop out of business.
Episode 2: First episode flashback. A flashback episode which features flashbacks to the previous episode as well as Happy Days!
Episode 3: Outbreak. A play on the movie Outbreak that also introduces Africa American character Lando.
Episode 4 Jay sues the Quick Stop and Dante when he trips in the Quick Stop. Judge Reinhold (Beverly Hills Cop) presides while Dante calls George Lucas to the Stand to defend Star Wars Episode 1.
Episode 5 Dante/Randall's High School Reunion Cool play on the High School reunion which sees Dante manage a Baseball team with one of the coolest Indiana Jones homage's ever!
Episode 6 After a Comic Convention where Clerks TAS is criticized this episodes spends the whole times based in the Quick Stop where the action outside is only referenced to!
Extras
Episode Index, Chapter Selection, Animatics, Television Adverts, Mini Documentaries, DVD ROM (including enhanced script viewer allowing you to watch an episode look at the storyboards and read the script, Character Profiles), Commentary track from Kevin Smith, Scott Mosier , Jeff Anderson and Brian O'Halloran.
This is how TV to DVD conversions should be done. What I love about this disc is that Kevin and co. have found the time to add commentary on to every episode which adds to the enjoyment of the DVD.
This really is a total package and has everything that you'd want from a great DVD of a doomed should have been a classic TV series.
