I am a Star wars fan,but by no means the biggest, I would never in a million years claim to be, but, a few months ago a Stephen Browning from BSKYB (a British Satellite network) posted a message in the Star Wars Forums looking for the UK's Biggest fan!

So I have of course responded with a little unusual answer to his question. I got no response, back but am so proud of my answer I kept it and have uploaded it here for your viewing pleasure.

Biggest Star Wars Fan?

I would not say that I am the UK's biggest Star Wars fan as I feel that a remark like that is both arrogant, egotistical and a down right lie as what criteria are you using to identify the size of fandom?

Think about the following:

1. If a Fan has a large collection does that mean that they are the biggest fan or that they have a lot of spare cash?

2. If a Fan has watched every episode 1000 times does that mean they are the biggest fan or still at school/college/Uni or on the dole? And why/how do you judge how many times you have watched the movies, do you count every time you've watched a scene as having watched the movie? I for one lost count in the 1980s!

3. If a fan has been to 50 Star Wars conventions does that mean they are the biggest fan or a Sad Anorak who also does the Star Trek circuit as well?

I for one classify myself as a big fan but not the biggest!

To me I'm one of the biggest fans not because of my collection and not by the amount of times I've watched the movies or how many times I view www.starwars.com or post in these forums.

I'm see myself as one of the biggest UK fans because of how I feel in my heart about the movies. I love them and enjoy being part of the bigger Star Wars community but THE BIGGEST FAN, I'm not that arrogant!

I have another tip, next time you check for responses in the Star Wars forums take a look at the left hand side of the screen and you will notice that there are some people with red names next to a photo (an Avatar). Now these people are the ones that you are looking for as we are all Hyperspace members.

Hyperspace members (www.starwars.com/hyperspace) are the true fans and there are UK'ers amongst them (myself included). We have our own exclusive Forum to chat and are well ahead of the game when it comes to developments in the Star Wars universe all courtesy of George Lucas and the crew at Lucasfilm.
