Telling it as it is!
Foot and Mouth: Phoenix from the ashes!
With the daily number of reported cases of Foot and Mouth seemingly in decline it was nice to see the saving of 12-day-old calf who had miraculously survived the slaughter at a farm in Membury Devon.
Thanks to intervention from Downing street it meant that Phoenix life was spared!
Lets just hope that the young calf does not end back on the dinner table!
Man Utd £19 million Strike(r)
Man Utd proved that, despite being one of the biggest clubs in Europe with a wealth of home grown and rising stars that they are not beyond paying out record fees to secure a better strike force!
The £19m move of Ruud Van Nistelrooy from PSV Eindhoven could spell the end for the likes of Footballer of the year Teddy Sherignham and out of favor striker Dwight York.
With a new strike force lets hope that other clubs in the Premiership can better themselves during the summer and compete better than they did this year (with the exception of Ipswich who need to prove nothing for still being in the Premiership) so as not to provide next season with another 'one horse race'.
Lewis KO
The unthinkable happened in the early hours of last Sunday as Britain's own Lennox Lewis was knocked out in the fifth round by rank outsider Hasim Rahman.
The KO could spell the end for the big money title bout between Tyson and the now title less Lewis.
Good luck to Rahman, as Lewis is a great fighter and for the underdog to win brings hope to all the underdogs who are given these near impossible tasks be it sporting or in life.
Long may he reign as the champ.
Peter Buck does a Gallagher
R.E.M's Peter Buck did the unthinkable this week when he was arrested as he left his flight from Seattle to London for being disorderly and throwing yoghurt over a steward.
Buck, in London for the South Africa concert (which R.E.M headline) and to promote their forthcoming album Reveal was bailed and to appear back in court in June.
Not to be biased but this is not the sort of thing that you can really imagine someone from R.E.M as doing.
Peter Buck, an ex-alcoholic, has never had such trouble before. This sort of action is more associated with Beatles wannabes Oasis.
I cannot condone what Buck has done but I cannot condemn him either. R.E.M is one of the two musical influences in my life (Go-Go's are the other) and their music inspired me through University and even now.
Bridget Jones Diary: Never again!
Two multiplexes nearby and both showing Bridget Jones Diary 24-7. I hate to go against public opinion but this movie is a stinker.
Don't get me wrong, I know it's a 'chick flick', and I love both Notting Hill and One Fine Day, but Bridget Jones Diary is pure rubbish.
It's not the fact that Hugh Grant is more smarmy than usual or the fact that they used an American (Renee Zellweger) to play an English character. It's the predictability.
Colin Firth who was excellent in both Fever Pitch and Shakespeare in Love is wasted in this drivel, and you know who Bridget Jones will end up with less than five minutes in.
This movie is pure film making by numbers and just because Bridget swears like a trooper and smokes does not make it good comedy. Admittedly I stand alone in thinking this.
