Telling it as it is!
Archer goes down!
At last it has happened, lying and cheating former Conservative and Author Jeffrey Archer was jailed for four year this week (although he'll probably be out in two).
Now some people will call this justice, I don't!
For what he has done and the lives that he has ruined this sentence is a Mickey-take.
Archer lied in Court in 1987 and used forged diaries as his alibi as well as his friends and cost Lloyd Turner (the Editor of the Daily Star at the time) his job which many believe led his to his heart attack in 1996.
It's not that Archer slept with Prostitute Monica Coghlan that matters here. It is the fact that The Daily Star rightly reported it, and to save himself the embarrassment, Archer sued the Daily Star over the allegations.
He won by concocting a story which cost an honest man (Turner) his job and his reputation in Journalism as well as the effect that it had on the Daily Star's reputation.
Now this is wrong. Four years for all of this misery seems nothing short of crap. This is an insult to the whole criminal law system. Archer should have been 'banged up' for 10 years minimum and forced to hand back the money to the Daily Star (which it has already began proceedings for), as well as compensate the family of the late Mr. Turner.
I just hope that the two years Jeffrey Archer spends in prison are as close to the pain that he has inflicted on so many with his greed and his lies.
Portillo bows out!
Michael Portillo the first man to put his name in for the Tory leadership battle bowed out this week when he was voted out leaving only Kenneth Clarke and Duncan Smith to battle it out for position as leader of the opposition.
With Portillo gone it looks as if there might be a fair battle. But then again if you look at the candidates they still stand no chance against Labour!
One (Clarke) is a former member of John Major's government, while the other (Smith) could be little Billy Hague's brother.
I'm not mystic but it looks like another win for Labour during the next General Election.
