Still telling it as it is!

Princess Margaret Dies

The Royal family was in mourning this week as the original Royal rebel Princess Margaret passed away last weekend.

As much as I dislike the Royal family, it was refreshing to see Prince Charles pay tribute with such passion about his aunt.

Scotland ban mounted hunts!

In a historic move, the Scottish Parliament has put through a ban on mounted hunting of foxes much to the delight of foxes and animal lovers everywhere!

With any luck when the bill is brought up againin the English parliament our MPs will hopefully follow Scotland's lead and pass the ban on fox hunting in England.

I know that those in the Pro-hunting and countryside folk will claim that I know nothing and that the banning of hunting will effect the livelihood of thousands of people.

I write not only as an animal lover, but also as a vegetarian of 11 years now and I am against anything that brings unnecessary suffering to all forms of life.

If the Scottish Parliament can pass such a historic bill then I can see no reason why the English cannot.

So come on Tony (Blair) and co. do the right thing!

The Mirror VS Naomi Campbell

When I first realized that I wanted to write professionally or as it was at the time be an entertainment journalist/film critic (while still studying GCSEs) my two biggest influences were Mariella Frostrup (with her wonderful late night Video View show) and Piers Morgan (then Entertainment columnist for The Sun).

Now all those years later it was interesting to see Piers Morgan in court defending his newspaper The Mirror from the allegations being made by Naomi Campbell and her claim for compensation over invasion of privacy.

Now Naomi, may be many things, a prima donna, a liar, a great model, a liar, a publicity seeking bitch and a liar, but more importantly she's an celebrity parasite who uses the Press when she wants the Publicity and claims harassment when it is not on her terms.

Mr Morgan and his QC Desmond Browne have been successfully presenting an image of Naomi Campbell that is justified, and with any luck they will win the case.

It's not that I have anything against Ms Campbell, but more so her kind! Celebrities who'll happily let the world know everything about their lives when they want to and invite the media to buy their stories or pictures for $£$£$£ an yet when the tables are turned they bite the proverbial hand that feeds them!

All this hassle with Ms Campbell has came about because the Mirror pictured and ran a story about Ms Campbell coming out of a Narcotics Anonymous meeting.

Ms Campbell does seem to have a problem and it is not the drugs!

Bush (President Jackass)!

Apparently President George "Dub-ya" Bush is set to launch an assault in the near future on Saddam Hussein in an attempt to remove him from power.

Admittedly Hussein needs to be taken out, but by an American force, NO!

Like I have said before, George Bush is on one the most dangerous men and the most dangerous US President since his father, former President George Bush!

Since September 11th I am given the impression that his Presidency seems to be more about staring war than bringing peace.

The so called "War on Terrorism" is a joke as Britain has been dealing with Terrorism for decades and, with the exception of former President Clinton and his administration what support have we received from America?

Had it not been for the attacks on September 11th Bush was going to turn his Presidential reign into one of the most isolationist Presidencies in recent years! He did not care about Europe, his world were the confines of the good ol' apple pie eating US of A.

Britain and Europe were seemingly only good for missile bases!

Before President Bush decides to start another war, he should locate and bring to justice the elusive Osama bin Laden and Taliban leaders who have evaded capture, but I think that is too easy a task for good ol' Bush to understand!

Will wins Pop Idol!

After last weeks well written rant about the evils of the Pop Idol show, I never imagined to be writing about it again!

But, what I find funny about the show is that no matter who had won they were both (Will and Gareth) promised Record contracts at the end the only difference being that the winner gets his record released first, so the only losers were those who phoned in their votes for a winner!

Come on all of those who phoned in were wasting their money and giving more to the shows producers and owners of the contest lines. I mean it is not like it was Big Brother (who I also never voted for) where every vote counted to get someone out of the house!

I had so much interest in Pop Idol that I decided to watch my new Go-Go's DVD instead (review below)!

Review: The Go-Go's in Central Park

Now if you look around this site you may be wondering " Why does this Steven Waterfield dedicate so much space to these 80s has-beens?"

The answer is simple, they are one of the most underrated inspirational, innovative American female bands of all time and deserve a little bit of publicity, and if even just one person goes out and buys a Go-Go's CD, DVD etc. after reading about them on my site then my job will be done!

The "punk rock girls with some noise to make" make their UK DVD debut with a live concert from Central Park, New York.

Now this is a dream of a live DVD with great picture, sound, extras and most importantly music!

From the opening bars of Head over heels to the end of I wanna be sedated (a Ramones cover), the girls rock out like no other.

If you thought that lead singer Belinda Carlisle can only produce MOR ballads and 80s power pop then this will be a real eye opener as the original party girls of pop give a performance that put their younger pretenders in the shade!

Highlights include new tracks such as Unforgiven and Apology mixed with the original Go-Go's anthems like Our lips are sealed, Vacation etc.

The Behind the scenes featurettes following the Go-Go's preparing for the show provide an interesting insight into what it is like to be a Go-Go!

Valentines day

Valentine's day, thank god it' over! It's the one day of the year that for the better part of 20 years that I have dreaded. Like going to the dentist, Valentine's day is painful and I'm glad when it is over!

Now call me a cynic but the only people who look forward to Valentines day are those who have found love or those who own Clintons, Thorntons, Inter-Flora etc. !

Now this year I was lucky instead of waiting for the annual No cards to arrive I was well-hung over in London (after one of the best drinking benders in recent history)!

But on the way home watching all those couples on the tube it got me thinking
Why do men buy women chocolates? Come on half the year they complain that the they eat too much and the "does my butt look big in this", and yet for one day a year all this is forgotten replaced by "give me chocolates, flowers or no sex for you!"

Another thing, why do people send anonymous Valentines cards? What are they so chicken (and I don't mean free-range) that they want to tell the person that they love them but don't have the balls!

Only another 52 weeks until the next Valentines day so I have 51 until I have to worry again!

MY (Bleeping) Computer!

This is in fact the second version of my editorial of the week! The first draft was wiped when my PC crashed three times (watching a DVD while I was writing) and on the third time all of the data was lost! So as I sit here writing, I am trying to remember what I wrote originally as it WAS the best column that I have written so far for my site!

Thanks to....

Special thanks this week to Christian Oliff and Peter Allison for getting me drunk on Wednesday and persuading me to buy a Palm M500 (Chris) and Peter for letting me know that The Go-Go's DVD was out in the UK! Thanks dudes!
