Still telling it as it is!
Trying Something Different!
It has been a bit of a weird week both news wise and the for this site. So bearing that in mind I have decided to dedicate this weeks editorial column to stories that have interested me so forgive me if I go off on a bit of a "Steven trip".
So welcome to my world and I hope that you enjoy!
Kathy Valentine's Day
Congratulations
and a big shout out to Kathy Valentine the wonderful Bass player of the
Go-Go's and Lead guitar of the
Delphines on the announcement of her marriage and pregnancy.
This could not have happened to a nicer person and I wish KV and her husband all the best for the future (I would also like to thank both Go-Go's.com and Delphines.com for breaking the news).
One of my fondest memories of meeting the Go-Go's before their show at the Shepherds Bush Empire in 1995 was of meeting Kathy. She was everything that a rock star should be and truly has time for her fans.
The Cult of the Mallrat
In
1994 Kevin Smith's debut movie Clerks opened to critical acclaim, in 1995
the sequel-as-such Mallrats
was hammered by critics and shunned by all but a small group who completely
understood the movie (Kevin Smith fans).
In the past seven years Kevin smith's misunderstood movie has gained a bit of a cult following due in part to the success of Chasing Amy, Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
At the time of Mallrats release you could buy the Official Mallrats book which contained the screenplay and is genuinely an interesting and funny for only £12. But like the movie the book took no £$£$£$£ so the book's run was only a small one which brings us back to today!
This week on View Askew's auction site a copy of the now very rare book was sold for $201.37. It's funny I always thought the Star Wars Chronicles would have been my 'Nest-egg'.
Ocean's Eleven DVD
I know I only reviewed Ocean's Eleven two months ago but feel that I must give the best movie so far this year another mention as it hits Region 1 DVD because it IS THAT GOOD!
Okay so the cardboard packaging is mediocre but that's what you expect from Warner DVDs but the Disc itself is a bit of a gem!
With two commentary tracks, the first with Brad Pitt, Andy Garcia and Matt Damon while the second with Director Steven Soderbergh and Screen writer Ted Grififn provide different yet interesting insights into the films production.
The rest of the extras are standard fare with makings of trailers but the DVD ROM In or Out game makes the lack of originality (and lack of deleted scenes) forgivable.
This is one incredible movie and a must-have disc for any self-respecting DVD collection!
