Still telling it as it is!
Eight Legged Freaks
If you like your movies 'B' with a heavy helping of cheese then this is the spider flick for you!
Eight Legged freaks is one of the true pleasures of this year, a
movie that does not try to be anything more than it is, which is a no-brainer
comedy horror which hits it's the mark on both accounts.
Set in a 'hick' town in the States Eight Legged Freaks is a pleasure to
watch with no hidden messages or pretentiousness.
The cast is great, the acting terrible, the spiders cool and
the story predictable. Add it all together and you have a must see movie
that harks back to the golden if not paranoid era of movie making in the
1950s.
The cast led by Sliders Kari Wuhrer, Scream's
David Arquette, Ghost World's Scarlett Johansson play this movie
straight which adds to the overall joy of the movie.
Toxic waste has replaced the nuclear threat and when some
toxic waste falls into a river in a 'hicksville' Arizona town it creates
giant spiders that only the returning Arquette and hot Sheriff Whurer can
stop.
Doug E Doug is superb as the conspiracy obsessed DJ who can
accept aliens but not giant spiders while the finale is spot on as the locals
fight back with pitchforks chainsaws and whatever they can get their hands
on.
Okay this is more of a straight to video movie but the pure
pleasure of seeing such a spectacle on the big screen is a must see.
RATING: **** Check your brain out and enjoy.
