Highlander Endgame

Ultimate Two Disc Collection DVD

Adrian Paul/Christopher Lambert

Director: Doug Aarniokoski

"In the end there can be only one" according to Christopher Lambert in the original 1986 Highlander.

He forgot to mention that this movie was a franchise and that in reality in the end there can be: only One true sequel (2 and 3 don't count), a cartoon series, and two TV series.

This time the Immortal Highlander of the title, Connor Macleod (Christopher Lambert), is joined by his fellow Highlander Duncan Macleod (Adrian Paul) (from the original TV series of the same name) while battling evil and trying to keep their heads.

The writers have forgot Highlander 2 The Quickening and 3 The Sorcerer and concentrated on making the definitive sequel to the original Highlander (hence no roman numeral prior to the sub-title) and have succeeded in doing so.

Endgame is a suburb piece of action drama (yes there is drama in between the sword play) that has some great twists that pretty much keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish as the Highlanders battle an evil band of immortals led by Jacob Kell (bruce Payne) intent on tormenting Connor.

In keeping with the Highlander tradition Endgame features many flashbacks to the past (which includes a humorous robbery featuring WWF's The Edge) to tell the history of the characters. But unlike Highlander 3 these flashbacks are well placed and have relevance to the story being told.

Extras

This DVD is on a par with that other great action DVD T2. Not only do you get a n extended version of the theatrical release on the first disc, but, on the second disc you get a full length earlier cut of Highlander Endgame which is noticeably different to the final version.

Also included id a commentary track, Behind the scenes featurette, Interactive game, Deleted Scenes, Visual Effects Historical Progression as well as Character Timeline, Script to Screen feature and game on DVD ROM.

All this is not just padding, it is legitimately good stuff and will keep you occupied for hours.
