After receiving rave reviews for his performance in The Truman Show, Jim Carrey follows it up with the bio-pic of the late Andy Kaufman, star of US sitcom Taxi who died of cancer in 1984.
Kaufman, entertainer, Elvis impersonator and Wrestler, redefined what comedy is in the States and at times alienated even his own audience with his bizarre stage acts which included wrestling women and his alter-ego the obnoxious lounge singer Tony Clifton.
Now, Man on the Moon may not be a perfect movie but it does give an insight into a troubled comic genius who could not come to terms with his own fame and wanted to be one step ahead of his audience.
This is a movie that only Jim Carrey could have starred in as he IS Andy Kaufman and he deserved the Best Actor Golden Globe that his performance received.
While watching Man on the Moon you are immersed in the troubled comic genius and his hating of the Hollywood system and Taxi, the show that made him famous.
Now what really makes this film special is the supporting cast including Danny DeVito as his manager as well as Christopher Lloyd, Judd Hirsh, Jeff Conaway David Letterman and Jerry 'The King' Lawler as themselves. Paul Giamatti gives a breakthrough performance of Bob Zmuda, Kaufman's buddy.
With an impressive soundtrack and score by REM this makes for one memorable motion picture that will make you laugh and inevitably cry.

Andy, Spotlight on Location, Deleted Scenes, REM's The Great Beyond and Man on the Moon music videos, Trailers, Production Notes, Cast and Filmmakers, DVD-ROM feature.
Okay a pretty standard extras package but what makes this better than the rest is the quality of it! 'Andy' is different from many of these bios as it features clips of the real Andy Kaufman including the infamous wrestling match with Jerry Lawler. While the deleted scenes are a pleasure to watch and make you wonder why they were cut in the first place.
