A self Interview

What have you been doing for the past two years?
To quote the Soul asylum track Can't even tell "Looking for a way to get out of here". Here in my case being ASDA the store that currently pays the bills. Okay I've been looking for a job that will satisfy my creative side, hence this web site. I have also been attempting to improve my computer skills and keeping up to date with all changes within the Media industry and fueling my addiction to teletext and the Internet!
Why do you think that you have not found a 'real' job?
First and foremost because, for the first post-University year I applied for jobs that were a little above my station. That and the fact that many of the rejection letters that I have received (and job adverts) have included "must have experience". How can I gain experience when people are not willing to offer it? Many people are not willing to give an unproved talent a chance!
What are your better qualities?
Enthusiastic, creative, committed, loyal and hard working.
I never know when to give up and if I think that I'm right about something I'll follow it through. When I was at college my buddies and I were told that we would not be able to get a final magazine out before the end of term. We proved them wrong, not only did we write the articles, design the layout, we also found the advertising and distribution. ViBE as it was known was a success.
When I was at University I funded my final video project and worked silly hours to write and direct the piece as well as designing props and adding a considerable amount of cash to the production. I literally lived the project for the seven months that I worked on it.
Which of your accomplishments are you most proud of?
Being paid to write an article on Star Wars was kind of cool, even if they never did send any more work my way (Their cheque helped pay one of my student loan repayments).
My Degree! I loved my time at Uni and it was all worth it for the two or three hours of the Graduation ceremony! Totally cool.
Meeting my heroes The Go-Go's and using the photographs in numerous pieces of college work.
These web pages! I am completely self taught. A year ago I knew nothing about web design ....and now I know a little.
What skills can you bring?
Truthful honest opinion when it comes to criticism. Great research skills when it comes to investigative journalism. I write from the heart and can write with passion about almost any subject that I put my hand to. I'm always willing to learn more and keep ahead of what's happening in the world.
What are your biggest mistakes?
Not learning more about web design at University. In retrospect I should have taken more modules in that area instead of film production.
Thinking that a degree instantly entitled me to a job! It doesn't!
What are you doing at the moment?
Writing this article! Drinking a coke and working out my next article that may make it onto this site. I spend my time between ASDA and most of my free time either working on these pages or practicing design work on one of the packages that I have (I am currently teaching myself how to use Dreamweaver and new Photoshop package).
Where do you see yourself in two years?
With any luck as a published Journalist or Critic be it newspaper, magazine or Internet. I have a lot of things that I want to say and just need a platform to say it on!
How do you decide what goes onto your site?
Everything that goes onto this site and everything that I take off is deliberate to showcase my talents to their best. Okay the design is pretty simple, but hey, I'm only learning web design at the moment!
When the site started out there were different reviews. I have changed some deleted others and changed a few to DVD reviews. The movies that I have chosen are there to show the differing genres that I have reviewed be it comedy, action, romance etc. I deliberately chose to review all of Kevin Smith's movies to prove that I can write impartially about one of my favourite directors. While my editorials are on subjects that I feel passionate about. These articles are some of the best pieces of work that I have written so far.
The Photo gallery is a new edition to the site and include some of my favourite photos that I have taken. Okay, some are a bit on the old side from Uni, but I feel they reflect some of the best work that I have done. Most recent photographs are located in the Star Wars pages. The reason they are not in the photo gallery is because I tried to limit all of my Star Wars work to one area of my site.
