A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....19/04/02
At last the Preview figures are out!
Jango Fett, Zam Wessel, R3-T4 and Clone Trooper hit branches of Argos this week and are they impressive?
Oooohhh yeah!
With a week to go until the full Episode II launch of the toys soundtracks, stationary, bedspread etc. it is great to see the Preview figures in the stores.
With
the exception of Jango Fett (Boba's father) they may not be the figures that
the fans would have chosen but they are a clear indication of things to come!

Memory of the week:
1997 Tazos: How I completed the set!
DISCLAIMER: I would not recommend trying the following unless you are still
in education!
Question: How do you complete a collection that is based on a freebie found
in every other crisp packet?
Answer: CHEAT!!!!
In
'97 Walkers released a collection of Tazos (little circles with Star Wars
images on) that fit into a collectors folder to celebrate the release of the
Star Wars Special Editions (and to sell more packets of crisps).
So how did two ordinary students complete the set between them?, and Why was there so many damaged packets of Walkers Crisps in Northamptonshire in early 1997?
IT WAS US!!!!
Both my friend Peter and myself were at University (Leicester and Luton respectively, so that's my excuse) and being lifelong Star Wars fans we worked out how to complete the collection by only buying packs of crisps containing Tazos.
Through trial and error (crushing packets in-store) we worked out that Quavers had a better ratio than any other Walkers product for containing Tazos, and that one crush revealed if the packet was empty or a winner.
So with one of us crushing and the other on 'basket detail' we were able to purchase only packets of crisps with Tazos and build up our collections.
Now Walkers are smart they put certain Tazos only with Doritos so bring in the invasion of the Multi-packs.
Multi-packs always had two to three Tazos in the bottom of the pack and if you hold a multi-pack up to the light you could see the Tazos and buy the ones that you want. Or, if you have nails and small fingers you could make a little tear in the bottom and rip the Tazos out, which of course we didn't do.
No store was safe! We targeted all of the larger supermarkets and some of the smaller! The best being Tescos where we did most of our pillaging and Sainsburys where we were followed by security (we knew he was watching so we were more subtle).
As much as I love the collection, it is the memories of going out and finding the Tazos that means more to me than the Tazos themselves.
