At last an exhibition that is worthy of the name Star Wars.
If you were one of the thousands who were at the Magic of Myth exhibit at the Wembley arena last summer and are a bit daunted about spending the money again for The art of Star Wars let me assure you that this is NOT that show.
The Art of Star Wars is without a doubt the best interactive Star Wars venture so far seen on these shores with an array of costumes, props and art work which will appeal to Star Wars fans of all ages.
Where as The Power of Myth was in essence an advert of Episode1, Nintendo and Kellogg's, The art of.... is a celebration of four of the best films ever made.
With videos and audio commentary throughout the exhibit, The art of Star Wars gives an insight into the production of the most successful movie series of all time.
The beauty of The art of Star Wars is that it features in essence many of the best props that symbolise Star Wars to it's fans. From Chewbacca and Boba Fett from the original trilogy to Queen Amidala and the Battledroids of Episode 1, this exhibit has everything.
Highlights of the show include a working Ree Yees (Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace) prop that you can operate, R2-D2, C3-PO, Annakin's Pod and boosters, Darth Vader.
But, of all the props nothing can beat seeing the original Yoda for the first time.
Now I have been a fan of Star Wars since I was a kid and have been to Elstree, Levesden and met the likes of Jeremy Bulloch (Fett) Peter Mayhew (Chewie) and Warwick Davis (Wicket), but seeing an original Yoda is one of the ultimate Star Wars experiences.
He may only be a puppet but he is the epitome of Star Wars, from the detailing of the puppet to the costume design. After 20 years the little guy can still hold it with the likes of Watto, Maul, and Jar Jar from Episode 1.
The whole exhibit is a testament to the craftsmen at Lucasfilm and ILM as the props, like the films have not dated over the years.
If The Art of Star Wars is
a sign of things to come I look forward to the next one (hopefully
with more of Leia's Slave Girl Bikini and Boushh suit next time please).
